What do you guys think of my tone here?

Re: What do you guys think of my tone here?

That clip typifies exactly what I like about a nice, fat, midrangey single coil bridge pickup tone.

I thoroughly enjoyed the tone. Thanks for posting that!

Re: What do you guys think of my tone here?

I dig it, mainly on the bridge, has a nice grind, with great clarity. I would love a lil more room on the overall sound, set the mic a few feet back and get a more open vibe. You may lose a bit of detail, IMO it is worth it though.

Good job Greg! I liked your tone as well as your chops.
I could nit-pick but anybody can do that about anything
in this world, so why bother. I liked it. Something I'd like
playing in the backround of a party to set the mood for
a mellow and groovin' time for all. Can ya' give me about
5 1/2 hours of that for my next "social". Cool :cool2:

Peace,

Darrin

P.S. I want that guitar

I am so freaking amateur at recording I am surprised I even got guitar to my computer (and I am a pro computer geek during the day too, go figure).

I may try different mic placement strategies if I ever get into recording much. I just crammed a 57 off center of the speaker and went for it. LOL!

Awesome Blues tones ! I really enjoyed the playing too !

This

Nice and smokey and sizzles on the edges. Reminds me very much of something Billy Gibbons would have done. I dig it.

and this.

Like the raw feel and the raw tone Greg- I'm not into "studio magic" so I love clips (and albums for that matter) like this that are pretty much just shove a mic in front of the amp and play.

And FWIW I think the bridge tone was far better than the neck -not sure what you've got pickups wise but the neck pup sounds unrefined-in a not so good way (muddy lows, thin highs). Don't know how else to describe it really. Not enough punch/pop- kinda lazy sounding?? IDK. Its not the playing, or the amp, just didn't care for that neck pup.

Thanks Jeff. The neck pup is an SSL-1 and the bridge is a Twang Banger.

Re: What do you guys think of my tone here?

i think its the amount of gain on the neck pup that kills it for me. the bridge holds pretty well to it but the neck kinda gets too tubby

Re: What do you guys think of my tone here?

So are you calling me tubby jeremy? I can't help it that I am tubby. I have tried dieting and that doesnt work.

LOL!

Re: What do you guys think of my tone here?

Nice straight ahead blues playing and tones.

I can't believe that Jeremy came straight out and called you tubby like that. At least he said that it was only your neck that was tubby. I guess that's not so bad.

I'm a big fan of the SSL-1 in the neck position...it might be worth trying lowering it just a bit in that guitar to bring it more in line with the volume of the bridge pickup. Cool post though, well done.

Cheers............................................ wahwah

thats right fatty get on the treadmill and chase the twinkie :D

did you have the same gain settings just flip the pup switch? thats a pretty rotund sound for the ssl1. not a bad sound but not what i would expect out of a ssl1.

is the clean volume of the two pups about the same?

Re: What do you guys think of my tone here?

Excellent stuff Greg. I agree that the SSL-1 in the neck sounds just a little louder than the Twangbanger. I had those pickups in my G&L Legacy for years and loved them. I'd have liked to hear you open up with the SSL-1, then let rip with the Twangbanger at the end.
2 excellent tones, and nothing to be ashamed about the playing, very cool...

I kicked in another drive.
