i can shred on all my ibanez/ Fender/ PRS/ Gibson/ BC Rich, because it's all about the player, not the guitar... :laugh2:

Ibanez Prestige RG3120 (Top-o-the line, baby! :smoker: )

Hey dude I have that guitar, I also use it for shred purposes. But it's really hard to brighten that baby up in the bridge

I'm not the biggest fan of shred. The techniques used and the sound are the things that impress me, but most shredders don't seem to know how to combine these elements. The ones that can, are called virtuosos and defenitely deserve that name.

The easiest way for me to shred, is the easiest way for me to play everything else. I need a rounded, medium-thin neck, but wide, with a flatter fretboard radius. Scallopped frets would be define but 6100 Jumbo fretwire is excellent too! The JPM Petrucci neck is excellent for this kinda stuff, but it's raising price every year! As mentioned in another topic, I don't like strat shapes too much. Explorers and Les Pauls I prefer, but it's very hard to find a neck like that on a body shape like these! :smack:

Yes shredding is about the player, but the player's worthless without the guitar, especially the wrong one!

Re: What do you shred on??

I used to find it difficult to plkay very fast on a Strat or PRS due to the rounded fretboard, hence 10" radius fretboard but I think you always make minor adjustments and you're flying before you know it.

Re: What do you shred on??

It really is about you and what your comfortable shredding on. I have a Peavey Wolfgang that I use and a slim taper neck Les Paul, both of which work fine for me. I also have an Explorer and I've shredded on it in the past to. Use whatever your comfortable using. I always say that you can give me a Samick guitar and a solid state Ibanez amp or a EB/MM JP and a Bogner Ecstasy, I'll have better tone and be more motivated with the latter, but it will still sound like me either way.

Re: What do you shred on??

I can shred on all of my guitars, but for unadulerated SPEED, I have to hand it to the Jem ... the neck on that guitar makes it sound like you're playing twice as fast as you really are!

Re: What do you shred on??

I used to have an Ibanez S gat, which had the fastest neck I've owned.

I now use a custom made Strat shape neck-thru (mahogony neck, maple sides) with Duncans throughout. It has a pretty fast neck, with reasonably low frets and a great action.

Re: What do you shred on??

I have 2 strats with yjm/hs3 combo in them. At the ripe old age of 50, I still like to shred!
