What do you shred on??

Okay, weird question! But, back in the 80s....I was all about Malmsteen and guys like that. I'd sit in my room for hours playing neo-classical licks on my Ibanez till my fingers hurt. Now, I am much more into things like Les Pauls and other various large bodied mahogany guitars. Problem is.....I get the urge to shred opnce in a while and wonder if I miss my shred guitars all of which have been sold. :smack:

What do you guys rip on these days? I personally have had no issues flying on my 2003 LP as I love that neck. Hey, Zack wylde and plenty of others have no problems. :burnout:

Anyway.....maybe that is a crazy thought to think I have to have a Petrucci model or Ibanez to burn.........

Maybe I'll just look for a dean Hardtail or Gibson SG for greater upper fret access and call it a day. :)

Re: What do you shred on??

Look for an older Ibanez RG550, there great, and cheap. eBay always has a few.

Re: What do you shred on??

for lps get like a double cut or something. my friend has one and it has great upper fret acces. i dont like them because i like to have my hand a certain way for playing faster stuff and the way the bridge sits bugs me. so does the carved top. but thats just me.

I used to have a white RG550. Kick myself for selling it and a custom made Ibanez I had in the early nineties. I moved out west and sold the custom job for like $175! :smack: I stopped playing guitar for a few years.

Re: What do you shred on??

My Ibanez S-series. That baby rips. Also have a Schecter C-1+ for when I feel like playing a shorter scale guitar. Completely different necks and scale, but they both play like butter and super fast.

Re: What do you shred on??

I think Gibson SGs are great for shredding. I think I'll end up with a Dean hardtail in a year or two. PRS guitars still pass me by because of that fret radius.

Re: What do you shred on??

I still have a Kramer somewhere....probally lend it out along time ago, some black strange thing I bought cheap, but the strange thing actually sounds rather well....hmm or so I remember it;)

I am actually getting this ESP made Kramer......I hope it is any good because the thing is very cheap :burnout:
Anybody knows anything about a Kramer Pacer Deluxe??
Didn't they come with Duncans back in the days of 87/88??
Yup update...two APS-1's and a JB :saeek: hehe

I'm like you - give me a Paul and watch me go to work! However, I like some Jackson's as well...

Re: What do you shred on??

My Parker is my main shred guitar, though I've been shredding a bit on my Strat since I threw the lil59 in the bridge. When shredding was more of a day to day experience for me I used my Ibanez USRG. Man, what an awesome guitar. Quilted top, tension free neck, man oh man...it screamed buttrock too much , I wasn't using it much, and I couldn't really use it on a gig so I sold it. I still regret the sale sometimes, but I can only keep so many guitars in my arsenal. :D Fortunately the Parker is a shred monster!!!

Re: What do you shred on??

I like shredding paper from time to time....lol nah I hardly shred either...I'm too lazy to pick fast and watch my fingers burn up;)
But I like fast guitars the same way I like fast motorbikes...hehe :burnout:

Re: What do you shred on??

I can play pretty quickly on my Parker, but I'm most comfortable with the action, response, and neck contour of my Strat. Give me an hour to warm up, my Strat, and I'm ready to burn!

My Parker still sounds better and plays hella good.

80's metal:
Ibanez Prestige RG3120 (Top-o-the line, baby! :smoker: )
Ibanez SA160QM
Schecter Limited Edition Platinum C-1 Stealth
Epiphone Korina Explorer

Everything else:
SX Strat
Epiphone Korina Explorer

Re: What do you shred on??

I'm really not much of a shredder, but I can play faster on my Wolfgang than any other guitar I've ever picked up. Low action, super fast and comfortable neck, Floyd Rose trem...perfect shredding combination.

Re: What do you shred on??

I´m the last person that would describe myself as a shredder (Like Jolly I can do that much better in the kitchen:D), but....

Anything I can get my hands on, and I do it regularly on anything from a Strat to a Lester to a Mosrite or even an acoustic.

But my weapons of choice, particularly for live work, are Jackson USA Dinkys or Soloists :smoker:

Re: What do you shred on??

I notice the older I get...the more I get into the classics......Strats, LPs, SG.....etc and I start to get away from all the other guitars on the shelf.

Re: What do you shred on??

One thing I noticed when I played this sweet Jackson at GC was that suddenly my playing was a lot faster...and I never do leads!

The way I see it, if you're an LP guy you still need a Jackson or Ibanez-style guitar around for what they offer (fast necks, Floyd Rose) and vice versa.

One Fender, one Gibson, and one shredder...then you've got the basics covered.

Re: What do you shred on??

I use my Wolfgang for heavy, grinding stuff. I shred on my Ash Fender Strats. Great definition and really snappy. I love Strats because I can play just about any style with them, including shred, which I love...I used to have a Ibanez USA Custom, but it sounded thinner than my Strats, so it had to go. I don't mess much with the whammy to start with, so that's not a problem with the Strat, not for me anyway.
