What do you think about my next project?

I am very seriously considering buying and putting together an outboard reverb kit from Ted Weber. I have been itching to build my own amp, but I need another amp like I need another 20 pounds hanging off my gut! Therefore an outboard reverb sounds very cool!

I want to cover the cab in the same red tolex as my Dr. Z and use the same grill cloth etc. I thought about finding a "Z" logo like the one on my amp and placing that on there, but after rethinking I might find a "G" in the same style as the Z and use it instead. "G" would stand for my name Greg of course. I think this would be super pimp don't you?

I think you're going to need to sell me the Z to fund the project. :laugh2:

Seriously, I think it's a cool idea. I hate solid state reverb, but the old "springs in a can" sounds great when used tastefully. It'll add a cool looking little rig to your setup, too.

This is an all tube unit! I don't think I can remeber what SS verb sounds like. All of my verbs have been pushed by a 12AT7 for a while now.(except the VHT it was pushed by a flippin' EF86 of all things)

I'm mostly used to hearing it on amp modelers, but those cheap little pedals never did anything for me, either.

Show-off. You posted this just so you could brag about the Celtic, didn't you? C'mon, admit it!

To be 100% honest no! LOL!!

Re: What do you think about my next project?

Hold off a few days.... Weber is about to release something called the Adverb. It will be the similar circuit, 3 knob, but it will mount on the inside of the tweed chassis. Amp power wire plugs into the Adverb, the Adverb plugs into the wall. When the adverb senses the amp is turned on, the adverb will automatically come to life. It is not part of the circuit, but truly sits before the inputs of the amp. So you'd run the guitar into the box, then the box into the amp.

If I did one on an Aislinn, I'd hard wire it so that the inputs on the top of the amp ran to the adverb, then hard wire the adverb to the main components fiberboard.

I'll be getting one of their chassis and putting my own components into it when its available. I just haven't been very impressed with the components the typical weber kit uses.

Re: What do you think about my next project?

Cool idea Scott but way over half the fun of an outboard reverb is the fact that it's a big ol box that sits on top of the amp and looks sexy!

Re: What do you think about my next project?

Hey brotha, this the mod you said I'd love?

Re: What do you think about my next project?

Scott,
That sounds EXTREMELY cool, but I am with Christian on this one. I just love those big ol' tanks sittin' on top of an amp!! Plus like I said originally I have no reason for another amp, therefore why not build something I have always wanted like an outboard verb tank.

Now tell me about the quality of the kit I am looking into. What parts are crap and what parts are good?

Greg...this is what I was telling you the other night...the Weber kits are OK but IMO you can get a lot better kits from some other places...I would use the Weber chassis and cab but to be honest if I were gonna do it I would use all different parts, or maybe a completely different kit.

Wanna help ol' buddy ol' pal??? :fingersx:

Re: What do you think about my next project?

I hear you. For me, I've got so many freaking amps sitting around these days, another big old sexy honkin' box is not what I'm after personally!

But adding one of the best verbs in history to my Franklin or my Aislinn sounds like a plan to me.
