What do you think about this? (damage?)

I know the pictures aren't great but work with me. I found what appears to be a tiny crack on the back of my guitar's headstock. It doesn't even seem to be too deep but I wanted to know what you guys think about this. I removed the tuner to see how far it went but as you can see it doesn't go into that area. The guitar tunes up fine, etc, no issues.

edit: in these pictures it looks like grain, but it seems to be a little more "deep" than just wood grain.

Re: What do you think about this? (damage?)

I would be inclined to leave it. You can see where the crack is heading. Nothing structural is under threat. Wait until there is enough movement to get some glue into the crack and make a good job of clamping it.

Re: What do you think about this? (damage?)

Looking again at the impression left by the machinehead casing, it appears that excess pressure has been applied during fitting. The crack may only be in the finish. (My LP Goldtop has these between the pot shaft holes.) Aiming strong light at the finish from an angle might reveal something.

Is there any evidence of impact on the front face of the headstock or to any part of the machinehead?

That's a good point. If you can't get glue into a crack, is it even a problem at that point? (Side note: Any of you guys ever use a syringe or any of the other Pro Tips™ to glue up a crack?)

That guitar is shot. Sell it and get a new one LOL!

I have. I went to the pharmacy and asked for a syringe. I also asked for surgical tubing (to use as single coil pickup spacers/springs) just to see what they would say. :D

Got the syringe for free, but it seems like no one sells surgical tubing. Ended up using silicone fuel line from a hobby store instead.

"We'll sell you the needle for shooting your heroin, you junkie, but not the surgical tubing for choking the vein."

"I would be inclined to leave it".

Pretty much.
I think you'll be alright.

Thankfully the "crack" doesn't lead to a tuner hole... I believe you have a cosmetic blemish that should be left alone...

I use syringes to inset glue quite frequently! I go to a medical supply store and get what I need and have never had a problem getting anything from them...

Different size syringes for gluing and some larger ones for precisely mixing toner to finish my guitars with a recipe I can reproduce...

There is nothing wrong with using as much as 10% water mixed into Titebond original to make the mixture penetrate, but you have to increase the dry/cure times...

I guess it isn't a problem. :)

I might as well, I'd make a hell of a profit.

That little crack doesn't seem to actually open up, you can feel it if you run your finger over it and that's about it. it doesn't go on indefinitely, it's just that little space.

Re: What do you think about this? (damage?)

I re-installed the tuner only using what pressure was necessary to get the screws in.
