What do you think of these guitar shapes?

Starting to narrow down what is going to happen for a one off custom guitar shape. I've been tweaking them for a couple days. With brutal honesty, what do you think? Details on what you like and what could be improved aesthetically and in functionality would be great and thanks.Proto 1&2.jpg

I like the second one just a little better. I'd cut out a bit more at the heel if you want 24 frets/better upper neck access. I would also make the upper body contour go a smidge deeper into the body. Other than those few few things it's a great look.

Kind of reminds me of the Paul Stanley Washburn

Its a fleetwood/iceman

That's the general idea but with more of the 70's funky lines taken out for a smoother look and lighter guitar, and with less upper horn digging into my belly.

I like the second one visually more also but I like the "no look" grab to the rear point to locate the strap button easy. I tried taking more of the heel out and it made it look a little stubby or out of proportion. I should mess with it some more but truth be told it's a sludge metal guitar and probably won't see much action above the 15th fret.

Does the whole top line need to come down more or just the waist? I'm worried about getting it too narrow and not having enough real estate for a big enough solid location for palm muting.

I'll work on it some more and get an update pic when I get a chance.

Just the waist, I'd give it just the slightest bit more of an angle. If you don't need the horn scoop, keep it the way it is, it looks awesome. All you need is a Dimebucker and a volume knob and you're set!

Re: What do you think of these guitar shapes?

I'm thinking Black Winter or SH-5, with the possibility of going really hot rod and only doing a bridge pickup with a volume/coil split and then a tone with a push pull for a bypass and then a lot darker cap for a doomier sound. Don't know anything about wiring at all but that's what I'd like to do.

Re: What do you think of these guitar shapes?

Yeah, the first thing I thought of was the Schon guitar.

Re: What do you think of these guitar shapes?

I agree that the original version pretty much looks like a Schon, although it's admittedly better than the Schon!

Here's my quickly edited suggestion: slightly smaller lower horn, reshaped upper bout, more of a "waist", slightly bigger/longer forearm area

Edit: And here's pretty much the same thing with a reshaped upper bout (again) and slightly rounder forearm section than the one I posted above:

I've never saw the Schon before. It's definitely is not a candidate for design cues.

That's pretty promising too. A little in the direction of what punch was saying. I like how the front of the upper bout being more vertical blends into a thinner waist on both though. It'll take some test fitting, too tall and it will regain a part that rubs me wrong physically.

I had the horn smaller in the first drafts but when I printed a template it looked just a hair too docile, like it needed to be more in your face to contrast the smooth flow of the rear. It matches well with the rear of the first one but the first one gives it more of an Explorer-esque looking arm rest than I want. Good stuff though, I appreciate it, check this one for a draft revision.

Re: What do you think of these guitar shapes?

If the design was flipped it would balance a lot better.

Do you think it will neck dive the way it is? I was wondering about that but I don't like the look as much when it's flipped. Wonder if moving the front strap button to the back, near the neck might help?

I just try and play it safe. It might balance fine but it would have more chance if it was flipped because the horn would stick out further up the fretboard. It's hard to predict but you could make it happen.

Re: What do you think of these guitar shapes?

Its looking good, my only thing i would say to try is a 3x3 headstock, but thats only a suggestion

Re: What do you think of these guitar shapes?

Yeah, it reminds me of the Schon, too. I can't imagine they sold a ton of those- they were expensive, and only around a few years. And they were pretty hideous, too.

Revisions on masta's direction. Looks pretty decent to me but it also gained a lot of ground on looking like the Schon's top line with the steeper line coming into the smaller waist. The smaller lower horn does look better though.

Re: What do you think of these guitar shapes?

They are both looking good, kind of like the bottom one a little better
