what does '59 in alder strat body sound like?

Re: what does '59 in alder strat body sound like?

In alder you can get tones ranging from Eddie Van Halen's early tone to Clapton's Bluesbreakers and Cream tones...if you have a Marshall and the chops. I use 59 Trembuckers in both of my Strats that have a bridge humbucker. The 59 is my favorite bridge humbucker for a Strat. I've tried the JB and many others and always comes back to the 59 Trembucker. Lew

Sorry for hijacking the thread, but what does it sound in an ash strat body?

59 and C-5 Tremspaced are my favorite for alder HSS strats. In ash, I'd go for a C-5 or CC tremspaced, just to counterbalance the hollower/brighter characteristic.

EVH's early tones were ash bodied strats and the korina Ibanez. No alder. It's a known fact he didn't like alder and called it "cheap wood" used by Fender. I know Fender used ash too but that's what he said repeatedly.

The '59 in alder sounds just a little on the thin side to me. Though it works well with the single coils in a strat as to not overpower. A bright clear tone with that pickup in alder.

Doesn't really matter....alder or ash: the humbucker and the Marshall's where most of that EVH tone comes from.

I really doubt many could tell alder from swamp ash through a cranked Marshall. Not so's it'd make that much difference anyway.

EVH would sound exactly like EVH with either wood.

With exactly the same pickups, neck, tuners and bridge, my alder Tele sounds almost identical to my swamp ash Tele.

Man I couldn't disagree more. The wood totally makes the guitar and an ash body strat sounds drastically different than alder. Alder with it's high mids vs. the scooped ash sound.

The wood really matters. More than pickups to me.
