What does a blown transformer sound like?

Just out of curiousity, what does it sound like when a transformer goes bad??? Do the lights come on, tubes glow, and the second you flip the STANDBY switch on, it starts humming LOUD! Then it gets louder and louder, as it starts vibrating.... Why do I ask? Oh just wondering becasue that is the exact thing my amp has been doing tonight! I am about ready to break something! I just got this thing back from the repair shop to get rebaised and a set of power tubes replaced last week. :angryfire

Ya, but I have played on it at least ten hours since I got it back before this happened... If that doesn't sound like a blown transformer, has anyone heard an amp make a sound like that before?

Lmao, this is what happened to me!!! Its in the shop now, has been for 2 weeks. Getting it back today if he can finish it up.

I'd just take it back to the tech. Worked fine before, now it doesn't. Sounds like he needs to fix it for free as far as I'm concerned.

If it was a tranny it would do one of the following things as soon as you turned on the power:

1. nothing.
   
2. melt the mains fuse to butter and then nothing.

I had some bad power tubes once and they sounded like they were going to blow up! It got louder and louder until it eventually popped loudly. After replacing them my amp had one little fart and then worked perfectly fine since.
