What does a complete re-fret cost in your area?

Re: What does a complete re-fret cost in your area?

Same here, $350 for a non bound board. It's rough tedious work.

$250 for a non-bound Strat if going with the same fret size, from a guy who worked for the (former) Fender & Guild Shop in TN.

EDIT: Not for Stainless Steel

$225 to $275 for regular frets (unbound to bound necks)

Stainless Steel is another $50.

Re: What does a complete re-fret cost in your area?

you can get one for $200 or you can pay $500. the "best" guy around here charges $350 for a non-bound non-maple board. i say "best" cause there is lots of good guys around, i just love this guys work. that said, i do almost all my own work

Re: What does a complete re-fret cost in your area?

In NYC I was quoted $950 for a stainless steel refret on my EBMM Axis. The shop was extremely reluctant to use SS and quoted me $950 to steer me away from it. That also includes a PLEK setup.

I think I ended up paying $700 for Jescar Frets.

It also included a setup, shim neck, minor wiring.

If I had to do it again I'd go to the shop across the street and avoid the cost of the PLEK

^^^^ ACCKKK

I have one of the best guys in the country near me www.guitarspecialist.com But of course he's up there in price. Some of the other local guys I have not had do any repair work, though they seem to be decent choices.

I actually would be going stainless, and with binding so I guess I have to factor that in as well.

Re: What does a complete re-fret cost in your area?

If it's a bolt on, just buy a new neck.

Re: What does a complete re-fret cost in your area?

Not too much, if you want a botch job. I learned long time ago that a refret was easier said than done, and lots of guys will take your money , and botch the job.
So, to answer your question, I don't know cause I wouldn't begin to trust any of he local yocals to do it right, so assuming I found a competent luthier, I would be willing to pay about 300.00-350.00 if they could plek it after they are done, which would jean they had a Pleck machine and thats an indication they wrere a pro shop that knew how to do a proper fret job..

Re: What does a complete re-fret cost in your area?

I was quoted at $400-450 for my bound ebony LPC, had a guy I know end up doing it for $200 or $250 I don't remember which (it was 3 or 4 years ago) the binding cracked in a few places, but it was built in 1981.

Re: What does a complete re-fret cost in your area?

A few years back, I sent my EBMMs to Philtone in Baltimore. He charged me $360 apiece for SS and Plek.

No can do for my Strat :) I've yet to play a neck that was quite like my Fender USA Deluxe...it has been sanded down on the back to perfection for my playing :)

Re: What does a complete re-fret cost in your area?

$350.00 and up...there use to be a guy on eBay out of Ohio that did absolutely awesome refret jobs for $125.00 plus shipping and had a weeks turnaround. I had him do a couple of my bolt on guitar necks ('88 Maple Gunslinger Neck and an '87 Maple Board RG550 Neck)and was very pleased with the outcome.
