what does a tone pot do when all the way on?

if you do not use it and leave it on full does it still effect the signal?
i have always disconected them on every guitar i owned beciase of EVH always not using one
and what does a 250K volume pot change to the tone compared to a 500K?
like for instance when a try a duncan distortion and i find it say to be to bright and trebly can i go to a 250K or hook up my tone pot to cut some brightness?

yes... the tone pot will always bleed through a bit of highs to ground.

And your assumption is correct, if you have a pup that is too bright, a lower pot value or additional pot can often get you where you wanna go

The difference between 250K and 300K is so small that I don't suppose it would make a big enough difference. It might come down to whichever one is more available. That said, 250K is far more common. 300K is mostly used by Gibson.
