What does a whammy pedal do?

Re: What does a whammy pedal do?

The job of the whammy pedal is to make your guitar sound like Space Invaders.

I have an XP100 that should have sold for 150 on ebay but a deadbeat payer decided he wanted to piss me off. It'll be back up this thursday.

I love the whammy pedal, but I'm going to just wait and save up until I can get one of the originals instead. Might be a while, but it'll be worth it.

Whammy pedals are like talk boxes: you can only use them a very, very little bit before you start sounding like a ripoff/dumbass, and they both cost way too much to be used so little.

Daron from System of a Down said he doesn't like to record with effects because it makes the song sound cheesy or dated. Whammys (and talk boxes) are an excellent example of this.

oh, and system of a down never sound cheesy on record ;) hehe

it depends how the use of the effect comes across to the listener - you might have said the same thing about the very first trem/vibrato system (strat or bigsby).. its only because players used it in a subtle way, instead of 'hey, look what i bought!' kind of thing..
