What does this vintage prs wiring actually do?

I found this online but I dont fully understand what's happening here. Who can explain to me what positions 2,3 and 4 do?

2 is both pickups in series, out-of-phase.

3 is both pickups in parallel

4 is one of the pickups switched to single coil. I didn’t go through it to see which one.
