What Duncan is Most Like a Burstbucker 3?

Re: What Duncan is Most Like a Burstbucker 3?

just get a used BB3 if thats what you want and money is a concern. If you must have duncan then get a 59/custom hybrid and buy a $3 A2 mag and pop it in there. Its a hot paf voiced pickup with mismatched coils. But it comes stock with A5 mag

Uh.. wait a second, the 59/Custom Hybrid has a difference of 3k (3000 ohms) between both coils while Gibson's mismatch is about 0.2k (200 ohms).

yes but it uses different wire on each coil. i dont think it sounds paf like at all regardless of magnet

I've had BBs where both coils have measured exactly the same. I'd wager there is less than a few hundred turns of wire difference between the coils.

I posted this in another thread back in January of this year. May interest some of you......

I love the Burstbucker 3. It has become my "go-to" in the last couple of years. That being said I grab them whenever I see one on the cheap.

I have 4 in the drawer at the moment. I measured them for you (or anyone interested) for reference:

2/22/2011 4.39/4.16
5/09/2011 4.37/4.16
8/08/2014 4.32/4.10
7/07/2016 4.33/4.14

To compare, I have a Fralin "Unbucker"

Fralin: 4.93/3.94.....much higher offset with an A4 magnet.

I think the Slash would be close, but I believe those coils are more symmetrical. The Brobucker comes with an A5, but a UOA5 or an A2 might sound really good too. The Brobucker is 10k and the Slash 9. something.
