what duncans closest to EMG 81 85

Re: what duncans closest to EMG 81 85

If you're gung ho about going with Duncans, go with the Custom/Full Shred combo. On a Les Paul, this set-up is the finest i've come across for extreme
metal and awesome for clean tones especially in the middle position.

But like the other guys have said, NOTHING sounds like EMG's. Our suggestions are for the Duncans that you might like due to the players you mentioned.

anderson H3+ eats the custom for breakfast.
custom can get harsh pretty quick, not even close with the anderson.
that ,the JB and custom custom are my favourites of the bunch.

the emg's really do look great in the gothic. I am surprised more suggestions haven't been made for the dimebucker, or even the invader. I have had no experience with either of these but I was under the impression they were designed for high gain.

Yeah dude, if your going dropped nothing works like a set of EMG's. I run an 81 and 85 in B. There is so much clarity it's unreal. Sweeps, legato, everything sounds amazing. Also, when you get into chugging the EMG's keep everything tight and on point. I've run a JB in B, and an EVO in B and nothing compares to those EMGs

Re: what duncans closest to EMG 81 85

I'm a big fan of passives, Duncans and WCR boutique pups mostly. But I have to say nothing does metal as well as EMG's to me. That's the reason my Historic 57RI Les Paul is getting an 81 in the bridge, mixed with a passive PAF clone in the neck - best of both worlds.

Just get the EMG's man, you won't be disappointed. It's quiet, loud and clear as hell. I prefer passives to play rock n roll and blues, but if you're into metal tones, just get EMG
