Hi yall

I want to get some new EL34s for my Rivera M100. I have been looking at revolutions site as well as Eurotubes
From the reviews the Electro Harminex look good

Any suggestions?

I've always had good luck with the JJ's, but I also like the EHx 6CA7. Don't forget about the pre-2001 Svetlana's. The Ruby EL34BSTR is supposed to a very good tube as well. It's a proprietary Chinese design.

I love my EH EL34's and 6CA7's. It's the best that I can find readily in my town.

Is that Rivera an EL-34 model? You'd probably be fine with any of the tubes listed, but for that amp, I'd probably put in Tesla JJ EL-34's, since they have nice glassy headroom to counterbalance the inherently compressed sound of a Rivera.
The E-34L's are also good, but may add more volume than you'd want to add to a 120W amp. I'd probably use the same type of pre tubes that sound best in highgain amps, the GT12AX7C, since they have a very tight focused bottom end, which Riveras can benefit from. If it's all tubed up with that combination, you'll have a great sounding, but very loud tone krusher.

I think for you guitars (which I played today) the JJ's EL34's
Bob at Eurotubes knows more about tubes than any human I know, plus his prices are great. I get my tubes every Thanksgiving from him
Hey its time to get new tubes

I like my Electro-Harmonix EL34's, though I do want to try some JJ's. EH's do great with gain, but seem to have less headroom for clean than the JJ's from what I hear.

ive had good luck with the jj's. old mullards are best for plexi style amps imo but might not be the best for a high gain amp

Had no problems with the EH EL-34's in my Laney.. I don't think they would do you wrong.

Thanks guys

I spoke to Tod a Revolution Guitars today. He recomended the JJs also I am not into super high gain. This amp has a bunch. He also recomended JJs 12ax7s and 1 GT 12ax7M for the V1 I already have 4 12ax7s so I am going to try that combo. Tod said the same thing about the EH el34s they are good for High gain.

Yeah this is loud but I have been running it at low volumes by cutting the power. It goes from 100-50-25-12 It is really sweet, The different settings given in the manual really work. I tried the Hendrix Crazy I just strummed it a little and I could hear the flavor . A little change on any of the dials really is noticable

Lou, I was using JJ's in my Framus amp head - they sound very smooth and don't compress like the EH's did. Get the JJ 12AX7S (Bob at Eurotubes will send you a balanced set of these for just a couple of bucks more than the regular price - it's nice have two matches pre amp tubes in the V1 and V2 positions).

Re: What EL 34s do you like?

I've got some Mullard EL-34's I love but I'm saving those. I also have a set of Siemens which are brutal and I'm saving those too. For modern production, I like the JJ EL-34L's, EH EL-34's, and Svetlana's. I'd like to try some supposed Mullard-like Groove Tubes GT-EL34-R2 (made by Svetlana).
