What electric guitar would you buy around $500?

I’ll wait to see what the OP comes back with before confirming - but I suspect there’s some subtle market research going on here (possibly on behalf of the originally linked website). If that’s the case, it’s pretty underhand to frame it as a well meaning request.

Happy to stand corrected, but will have to hear back from OP.

First, I would decide Fender style (screw neck, regular scale) or Gibson style (set neck, medium scale). Fender = snappier response, brighter pickups. Gibson = more rubbery response, darker pickups.

If Fender, Strat or Tele? Tele for simplicity and a bit more output, Strat for covering a very wide tonal range, and lower output.

If Gibson, LP or SG? LP for chunkier weight and when you don't play up high, SG for a lightweight guitar with lots of access to the high frets.

There are more options, of course, but those are the classic beginner ones, keeping it very simple.

Ive been in this way of thinking before. Its better to know what you want rather than buy something because of specs. And know what a partucular guitar is good at.

If you idolize Prince and saw him driving in a little red Corvette, you gonna want to get a red Corvette. Not a Hyundai Genesis.

What pedals/amp you using? What kind of tone are you aiming for?

I just bought a Boss DS-1 LOVE IT! Incredible rhythm tones for chord work that sounds like a warm les paul and ok for lead...requires a lot of fine tuning if you wanna get a good lead out of this pedal. It has a brilliant crunch but no proper over drive sound!

I also have an AXL (basically a Boss MT-2) now this pedal is insane for that heavy metal chord play and for good "heavy metal" lead it's actually not too hard to tweak to get that tone.

Now, these pedals work best on an amp with a decent clean...which in my opinion is almost every amp! So remember to tweak your amp AND your pedals! You can't just focus on the pedal if you want to get the best tone possible!

Now for a guitar it totally depends on what you like, do you want a flying v, strat, superstrat, les paul, double cutaway! Please message me back and I'll make some suggestions!

Re: What electric guitar would you buy around $500?

Hi guys,

I'm thinking about buying a new electric guitar in the coming months. My budget is going to be around $500, although possibly could spend a little more. I've been making a short list of guitars I would like to demo before I buy. This gave me the idea to ask what guitar people would buy with around the same budget. I just thought it would be interesting to see the opinions of a group of people with a wide range in opinions on what makes a good guitar and also different styles of playing. I read this article https://bestelectricguitars.reviews/best-electric-guitars-under-500/ but I'm newbie. To make it even more fun try to write down your reasons for selecting the guitar.

Thanks in advance

I admit that I haven't read all the posts and some suggestions were probably appropriate. But asking this question is like asking..."What car would you buy for $2000?".

Pretty silly at BEST.

For racing? Off road? Economy? Hauling? Power?

I think you mean $20,000??

Well, I may have been a little low but not THAT far off. Maybe $5000 would have been better. If the practical range of costs of common new and used guitars is up to say $3000, then $5000 (for a car) would be the same ratio of cars costing up to $30,000. But the cost really has very little to do with the point I was making, right?!

Epiphone Les Paul Ultra III

just looking at those

That's a very excellent choice. I have one of the original Ultras that was my number one for many years. I often pick it up and am stll amazed at what a really fine playing and sounding instrument it is (I have replaced the original pups, which back then were really bad, with GFS Mean 90 in the bridge and SD Pearly Gates in the neck).

Yeah I noticed the new ones come with Probuckers
I really like them in my Florentine

And I'm kinda into this mag / acoustic thing right now
It just adds another voice to the mix
Almost like double tracking

I have an Epi LP with the new ProBuckers. They aren't bad sounding at all. I have no intention of replacing them.

Hover over the sig to check the URL, guys -- this is a spammer trying to farm clicks on his article.

Being that he hasn't come back, and he wrote an article about it yet posed what seemed like a sincere question, it does seem kind of spammy and trolly. Thread closed.
