What feels like the dumbest question ever

Re: What feels like the dumbest question ever

Shape is distribution of mass. Nothing dumb about the question.

Re: What feels like the dumbest question ever

I played many Steinbergers without wood behind the bridge (well, without wood at all, really), and they sound as warm as any other guitar. I think you can make statements about altering the same guitar, and how it can change, but comparing 2 different designs, there might be too many variables. To me, 'I like it!' or 'I don't know, I just don't like it' is usually enough.

^ You do have a point here. We do need to look at all sides of the point. It would be interesting if you had other guitars with the same pickup. One of the big points to consider is that every guitar is a little different, and not every guitar of the same shape will sound the same, nor will all guitars with the shape changed have the same tonal change.
Of course you cannot know how your guitar would have been if the body was larger.

I have been thinking the same thing reading this thread. Yes, shape and mass will effect the tone. That does not mean it will do so in a negative or monumental way? I would say no. One would argue EVH taking a saw to his Ibanez Destroyer didn't make a difference at the end of the day. It still sounds like EVH playing the guitar.

Yes, I guess this is one of the things that we talk about in this argument. There are things that matter more when the overall tone comes out the end of the chain. But simply because there are larger contributions to the overall doesn't make the smaller ones invalid in an argument sense, nor does it mean they somehow vanish.
