I am thinking up plans on my next axe I am going to build. I am wondering which floyd rose to get. I pretty much want the best that can be had. I am considering Schaller or should I go with the original Floyd? Has anyone used the Floyd Rose speedloader system? I am open to suggestions.

If I remember, Zerb likes the Schaller. It also seems I remember something about them being hard to find, but I can't be sure. I don't want to put words into Zerb's mouth.

I think it's pretty hard to beat the original floyd. Just stay away from the licenced ****e....but you already knew that.

Re: What floyd rose to buy, where are ya Zerb

this may have changed, but last time I looked, authentic Floyds as sold by Floyd Rose are made by Schaller in Germany. that includes the original, pro and '2' model.

I prefer an original floyd or floyd pro over the cheaper, diecast '2' model. the Solid steel units tend to hold sustain a bit better, which is important when you're talking about floyds as they generally rob guitars of sustain. much of that has to do with the tiny sustain block.

Outside of floyd's stuff, Gotoh make an excellent floyd licensed bridge. It has slightly angled-away tuners like the early Ibenhad edge bridge and a very cool push in bar that can be adjusted for no slack. It's also equivalent quality to an original floyd in terms of the metal and finish. Highly recommended. As used on EB-musicman guitars.

Dunno about the speedloader, but I'm very intrigued. Anyone?

Carvin sells the Schaller Floyds through their web site in gold, black, and chrome.

I thought with the speedloader system you had to by special strings. Could be wrong haven't researed it much.

SO, short time Online, so I´ll help where I can.

I prefer the Schaller and OFR Units. Which one depends on the axe (BTW Schaller makes both), the Schaller sounds warmer but is a bit less responsive (for example on ash Bolt Ons like my Charvel Reissue) and the OFR for axes thar are either Main players (because of it´s responsiveness, Feel is important, and it sustains a bit better) and on Alder or Mahogany bodies, or Neck-thrus like My DK-1 (alder, maple/ebony, Bolt-on, Dimebucker) or a Jackson Soloist.

The Pro seems like a good unit for those that prefer a Lo-Pro unit, but the routs are differnt, dunno by how much.

No Experience with the Speedloader. Strings are made by Dean Markley(?) under the Floyd Rose brand (and I think they make their own as well, but not sure.)

And I still prefer Kahlers, which are steadily becoming available again. http://users.adelphia.net/~asaccoia/

Re: What floyd rose to buy, where are ya Zerb

The Schaller is very popular here in Europe and also very well-known. We once held a topic on the dutch forums about Floyds and Schaller and the Lo Pro Edge by Ibanez won big time! I don't really like messing with Floyds, I like sustain better! But my favorite type of tremelo is definitely Kahler!

Thanks for all the help gentleman!!!!!

Re: What floyd rose to buy, where are ya Zerb

So Im right in saying an order of

- Kahler
- OFR / OFR PRO (for low pro players)
- Schaller
- OFR '2'
- Gotoh 'liscenced'

Re: What floyd rose to buy, where are ya Zerb

i wouldnt get the speedloader. i havent played it, but from reading about it it seems like u cant change the tuning up too much. no Eb then or open g or stuff like that. the strings are premade to a certain lenght so as soon as u put them in they are in tune. that is cool but id go with a normal floyd.

Re: What floyd rose to buy, where are ya Zerb

The first decision you need to make is the radius of the fingerboard of the guitar you're building. Once that's sorted out, the decision on bridge and nut becomes a lot simpler.
