What full-size, bridge humbucker will get me this?

First, I have an alder body Strat Plus w/ a maple fretboard and a two-point, non-locking trem.

I’m looking for something that has (what I hear to be) a prominent mid, - upper mid “honk”. I’m thinking Def Leppard – ‘Pour Some Sugar on Me” or Styx ‘Blue Collar Man’. Don’t know if that’s James Young or Tommy Shaw. Shaw usually sticks with dual hum Gibbys. JY plays a Strat clone. Don’t know what he played back in the day. It almost sounds like it’s going through a half-cocked wah pedal.

Also, I’d like really effortless pinch harmonics. Not quite as over the top as Zakk Wylde but easy to get without having to dig in hard.

Of course I want good bottom for palm muting but I’m thinking more hair metal and not so much drop tuned or nu metal. I’m not too concerned over balancing volume with the neck or mid pickups, which will probably remain some sort of single coil or stacked single coil.

I’m thinking a JB only because it seems to be the ubiquitous choice for so many but I’m open to anything. For what it’s worth, my amps sound middy/muddy and dark but I don’t really want to buy a pickup to fit an amp, as amps seem to come and go.

Thanks.

Phil Collen and Vivian Campbell both use DiMarzio Super 3s, it will give you those tones. The JB is more upper mids, still great tones, but different. It will depend more on what you are running it through than the pickup.

agreed. even if you had the same rig as Collen or as Shaw, that still won't mean you're going to get those sounds.

I'm always a fan of the JB. hands down. I've got it in maple, alder, poplar, mahogany and basswood bodies. awesome and versatile pup.

but I also have a DMZ Super 3 that came stock in a Jackson PC1 (mahogany body, maple top). it works fine for my needs. I'm looking to replace it with a Duncan, but that's a preference toward Duncan and in no way a complaint about the Super 3.

I just ordered a dimarzio AT-1 for my alder strat because i was told it is a more refined JB?
