What ga. are individual conductors in HB 4-cond lead wire?

Hi all,

I'm wondering what ga. are the individual conductors used by Seymour Duncan in a typical 4-conductor humbucker? Also, how about typical braided shield single-conductor wire, and the conductors used for single coils?

And just out of curiosity, is this the same for Dimarzio, Gibson, etc?

FWIW, I need to replace some "snipped-way-too-short" leads on several HB's I've bought used... and bought cheap because the leads were so darn short:scratchch

Do you recommend a particular source for the foil-shielded 4-conductor wire... Stew Mac, Wymore, any others?

thanks and cheers,

I'm sorry if I was not clear in my OP... I'd like to know what gauge each conductor in a SD HB lead is? Wymore has a Shielded 4-Conductor wire for Pickups, but he only mentions it being a bit smaller than what Gibson uses. And Stew Mac lists theirs as having conductors that are 28 AWG.

Like I mentioned, I'm really just curious what Duncan uses... and some other manufacturers if different?

thanks,

they should be 28awg IIRC like you said, though i'm just going off of wymore.

Thanks super rad stuff,

I'm guessing 28AWG, but I didn't see that ever listed on Wymore's site? Only Stew Mac. Guess it doesn't really matter, I was only curious. I'm going to be ordering wire and magnets from 3 different places anyway... I'll compare when it all comes in and I replace those short HB leads.

I am not positive of the AWG on the wire I have but it looks to be the same size as what SD uses in the 4-Conductor pickups. It's sourced from Allparts.

The comment on my website about it being lighter than what Gibson uses was in reference to wiring a 3-Way switch, not the actual pickups.

Wow, thanks! I see that now in the way it's worded... the way I read it! LOL

I'll see if I can get around to making that order... gonna do a Demon8 with one of your Alnico 8 mags.

Just curious, you got some magnets that will work with a SD Phat Cat... I'd like to do something interesting with one of those (I have 3: one bridge and 2 neck positions)?

thanks and take care,

any of those magnets on wymore's site will work in a phat cat.i personally like a8/a2 in the bridge and a5/a4 in the neck, but that's with an SG.
