what gauge is your high e string?

Re: what gauge is your high e string?

11 electric
13 acoustic

seems to be my comfort zone, usually in standard A=440 type tuning. Basically I started out on really light strings (.08 high E) and went up until I stopped breaking them at the bridge or causing the whole guitar to go out of tune by strumming or fretting.

Re: what gauge is your high e string?

11

But it's an E flat.

Today I put a fresh set of custom-gauge Naked Strings on my SG Classic, so that guitar has a most-exotic..

..wait for it..

11.5 Eb

Re: what gauge is your high e string?

10 on everything (including acoustic), except for a Thinline Tele, which has a 9.

Re: what gauge is your high e string?

Currently 11 on my Tele, 12 on my strat and 13 on my hollowbody. The only reason I haven't moved the tele to 12s yet is because the neck is incredibly thin, and began to bow a little even with the 11's on, so I adjusted the truss rod and it's now sitting nicely. I'll wait a few weeks for them to sit in place and make sure there's no further bowing before moving up again.

Then again I use flatwounds, so the actual gauge is 11-50, it sounds nice as is so there's a chance I might just keep it, even if it does feel a little more finicky with little 11's on it.

13 on acoustics.

Re: what gauge is your high e string?

a 18. b is 16, e is 14. i made the set out of loose strings. :9:

All the better for practicing your truss rod adjustment skills. Small wonder that the action on your Mustang is so high!

Re: what gauge is your high e string?

11 std tuning electrics
12 flatwounds on my old guild hollowbody
13 std tuning acoustics

if i drop tune i go heavier to keep the tension about the same. 11's on a strat in std are about the same as 12's on a strat in Eb and 13's in D
