I don’t know why I’m curious. It’s easy to go overkill. I just bought a little three-foot cable that seems nicely made for the money and is 16 AWG. I have some I made that use MIT CISC, which is a 14 AWG and a 18 AWG. I guess that’s about a 12.6.

I usually use 14ga braided. Or 12ga for my bass. I have one home made cable that's 14ga oxygen free braided.

So, the 8 AWG cable — did you make it yourself, or was it commercially manufactured? What kind of ends are on it?

1/4" plugs soldered onto a set of jumper cables?

I bought one from Carvin
it was listed as 15 gauge
I dont believe it

Re: What gauge is your speaker cable?

For amps to cabs and < 6 ft......16 or even 18 is OK since I don't play any amps > 40 watts. For PA to speakers with 25 ft. or longer runs, I always use 12 ga.
So, I marked 16 ga. in the poll.

Re: What gauge is your speaker cable?

16 through 12.

Overkill, but it seems anything that comes with good ends (Switchcraft and Neutrik) come built that way.

Re: What gauge is your speaker cable?

I think mine is 10? I got it from a local car audio place and soldered the ends myself. Total overkill, but they didn't have 12 and 14 looked skinny to me...

Re: What gauge is your speaker cable?

Mine is 16 ga. I had some thick jacketed in-wall cable that I used with some jacks from radio shack. It's only 3 feet, but I'm about to make it longer because I want to put my micro dark on my pedalboard.

I use 12 and 14. It's overkill for my needs but it doesn't cost much for me to build the cables and they'll probably last me forever.

Re: What gauge is your speaker cable?

I have made some thick Belden cable with amphenol plugs, 3 ft long & either 2.5sq.mm or 3.0sqmm, don't remember now cause I got it locally, not sure what awg that is, it was gifted to a buddy later on, I have a combo amp.

Speaking of which, considering that cable was heavy & short in length, I suppose having it dangling in air for months long could strain the sockets if its those plastic ones, in which case tucking the extra length between the head & cab would be a good idea.

Re: What gauge is your speaker cable?

I have no clue...don't really pay attention...

I think some are 14, and some are 16.

Meh...*shrug*
