For me it's tone. I thought I found it with the POD (gasp!) through headphones but couldn't replicate it with any satisfaction through the Atomic. I like the 50Blue I have now but still wonder if I should give the XTLive another chance with different poweramp/speaker combinations such as a keyboard amp or a rackmount tube power amp and an Avatar cab.

Or maybe I just like buying ****!
The POD sounds best through a PA. Trust me.

Following that, a decent keyboard or bass amp combo will work. I personally have not tride the Atomic amps, so I really cannot offer an opinion.

But, my first point stands.

Re: What gives you GAS?

Realistically speaking........the psychological high from owning something today that I didn't have yesterday.

Musically speaking........adding one more tool to the toolbox of sonic joy. Some of it is easily justified, and some is just pure gluttony. LOL

I just might pick up another XTL and see how it sounds going through my Traynor and maybe some other sources such as a P.A. as you suggest. A couple guys on the Line6 forum say they are satisfied with their tone thru a PA or neutral keyboard amp. Thanks for the suggestion!

Re: What gives you GAS?

I voted other.

Basically what happens is: I see a piece of gear, black out for about 30 mins. When I come to I find that I have no money.

Cabbage, Beets, Onions eaten with Nathan's foot long hot dogs, flushed down with a root beer float.

Re: What gives you GAS?

At this point, it's more the way a guitar looks than the actual tone.

I have 6 guitars with certainly more tone choices than I'll ever need, but sometimes I'll see one that just looks so friggin cool I want to get it, however irrational and stupid it is.

At this moment, I really would like to get a sunburst firebird, but I don't need it and I cannot even come close to justifying a purchase like that in my situation.

Re: What gives you GAS?

I'm driven by the desire to nail tones I've been hearing in my head over the years. Some of it is from other artist's gear I've heard on albums, some live, and some I just come up with in my head while tweaking with stuff.

After all this time, I'm still not fully there. I'm not sure what will make me happy from all angles. I've found a setup right now that can get me a pretty wide variety of sounds and for the most part I'm very happy, but I always wonder if there's something out there that I haven't played that would get me even closer!

Re: What gives you GAS?

Definitely Mae´s Salad.....

I dunno, but for the most part GAS attacks are random with me, the last one (and first one in a while) was when I got my poweramp and rack, and then started gassing for components to fill it :D:D

Re: What gives you GAS?

I voted for other, because my GAS is driven solely by the desire for new tonal options. If it will make radically different, cool sounds that I can't already make, I want to try it. That doesn't always mean I want to own whatever the pieces of gear is, but in some cases, GAS wins and I cave.
