What guage/material of wires to use?

As I am modding my Lonestar strat, I am already seeing wires that I'm going to need to replace as I solder and re-solder as I make changes.

I know I'll keep the color pattern of Seymour Duncan, but I need to know the guages and materials that are best to use with:
1) The neck and middle Texas Special Pickups (I would imagine this would be a hot wire, and the bare ground wire)
2) The P-rails humbucker
3) The Volume pot to tone pots, and between the pots
4) Wires going to the 5 way super switch

On the pickups, I am hoping to avoid replacing the entire wire and having to open up the pickup . . . does simply splicing the new wire to the old mess anything up (could either twist them together and use shrink wrap, or use the correct crimpped connectors)?

Thanks y'all,
Jon

Re: What guage/material of wires to use?

I've just recently used a combination of the following (in one of my Jackons):

(Would have like to have used the Gavitt cloth covered wire but nobody would ship here.)

and

And to me: splicing and soldering and using shrink wrap is preferable (when extending pickup wire). Not as bulky as connectors (and you still have to cover the connectors anyway). And probably even less chance of causing any issues.
