Yeah, I wind up using teeth. Or plain wire cutters and a lot of hand control.

Use a sharp knife, like an Xacto and cut the PVC all around. Gently does it. No need to go all the way through. Then use fingernail and thumbnail or teeth.

I cant find strippers smaller than 22 guage...ended up using a razor blade...

Those will strip from 20 down to 30 gauge wire. I doubt you'll ever be using any smaller wire than that. Only $14 and delivered the next day.


This is what I use. You can set it to any size you want, but it's not as convenient as the other stripper I posted because it only can be used for one size wire at a time until you reset it. But it works fantastic.

I used the kind in that second link for decades.
Finally switched to the first kind, for exactly the reason you cited.

Yeah, they both work great. I'm still using that second one. Since I use only 24 or 26 gauge wire I can set it and forget it and I don't have to search for the correct notches in the first stripper. But either work perfectly fine.

I got a two pack quite a while ago, 10-24 and 20-30. Best thing I ever bought for doing anything requiring wire stripping. No more using side cutters. Electricians get really good with lineman pliers but they do more wires in one day than I do in a year.

Also, if you ever do coax, getting the stripper and compression fittings is the way to go!
