What guitar did you learn to play on?

Re: What guitar did you learn to play on?

I learned my cowboy chords and how to make noise on a 1984 Kramer Striker 200.
Sadly, I was more into motocross and partying and didnt focus on playing so I didnt get beyond that. Then after not having a guitar for 17 yrs, I got a Squier strat and learned more about playing and repairing and pup swapping on that one..

Not a guitar but this:

Not that exact one, but it was my dad's 80's Tokai P-Bass; looks exactly like it. Lost it in a pawn shop years ago. I'm still pissed at myself for that.

First guitar I learned on was this:

It's now taken apart and neon yellow.

Re: What guitar did you learn to play on?

Older Ibanez Roadstar, With the older style headstock. It had a Dimarzio Super Distortion in the bridge and a stock pickup in the neck that had a push pull pot that did something, can't remember what it was. It was white with a black pick guard that broke around the jack and in a fit of coolness LOL I decided it needed to be painted with a splatter effect that made the thing look like it was robin egg blue. I gave $125 for it, which was alot for an 18 year old who had only made noise on a guitar that I "messed" with in the military. 22 years later I don't own a single Ibanez and that was the only one, all it took was one Jackson and have been hooked since. Cool thread I liked reading down through the stories.

Stra-do-lin Acoustic first
nice high action cowboy chords
took my one and only lesson on it
dont know what happened to it

coupla strat copies and "Karaoke" amps

then a Yamaha Nylon Classical
strung it with steel strings
neck bowed really high action could not make a G chord
barre chords were a night mare
sounded heavenly when I got strong enough to play it

yea that Yamaha

Fender Acoustic Electric
loved it
destroyed in a freak nakey girl accident

Squire HSS strat
Black with maple board
dang relatives

current list in sig

yea Yamaha acoustic is what I learned on

Re: What guitar did you learn to play on?

My first guitar was a Hohner acoustic. I'm pretty sure it was made out of cardboard because it really only lasted seconds once I threw it in that bonfire.

God, that guitar was frigging awful.

Re: What guitar did you learn to play on?

My first guitar was a classical guitar, a Yamaha I believe. It was given to me by my grandma. I played along to the likes of Tool, Metallica, Megadeth and Dokken on that guitar until my parents bought me my first electric guitar at the age of 17. I gave the classical back to my grandmother, who gave it to my aunt to play for her students. Sadly she sold it... When I found that out years later, I was really bummed about it. I couldn't tell you now if it was a good guitar, but I do know that I was way too young to appreciate a classical guitar.

So, my first electric was an Ibanez RG170 played through a Squier Sidekick (10 watts, 5" speaker). I still have the original receipt:

Oldest pic of the Ibanez:

Re: What guitar did you learn to play on?

I started when I was 15 on my Dad's first guitar on which he started when he was 15. It was Martin copy by Hohner. I still write and play on it religiously.

Re: What guitar did you learn to play on?

I learned basic stuff on a cheapo fender mutt...then bought an epi les paul standard silver sparkle for my other stuff. that was when I was not playing the heavy music. hence the **sparkly shiny color** I have a silver sparkle strap to go along with it. its pretty sweet looking for glamrock. not available to me currently - at my parents house in Cali... but one day :)

Re: What guitar did you learn to play on?

I was spoiled...the first electric I ever played and the one i learned on was my uncle's les paul custom (from the 70s..) which he lent me when I expressed interested in learning how to play. basically this guitar...

6 months later I had saved enough to get my own guitar...a blue fender hwy1 strat. I remember the first time I changed the strings on it and the bridge went flush against the body, I freaked out....those were the days.

first song I learned was walk don't run by the ventures....followed closely by wipeout...how bout you guys?

............................Whats our uncles phone number? I just found out I'm your long lost brother.............:naughty:

I’m new and want to start to play the guitar but I'm not sure what guitar I should be looking for . I've been browsing online and noticed that most people offered to buy Ibanez guitar. And I came to the conclusion that i would buy one in near future. How do you think?
