What guitar for a Screamin Demon?

Ordered a TB-12 Screamin Demon, STK-S7 and electronic (CTS pots and Switchcraft switch and output jack) months ago to put in a HS superstrat that I sold in the meantime I received the pickups.

Because it was a special order the store doesn't want to do a deal in 1) keeping what I ordered and 2) me buying other merchandise for more that 2x the amount of the order. So I'm stock with nice pickups and electronics even if I don't have a guitar to put them in…

Two options.
1- Sell the pickups and electronic on ebay/kijiji for half the money
2- Buy a cheap guitar to put them in

I don't really need another guitar but might opt for option 2. I already have a Gibson LP, a Peavey Vandenberg and a custom made superstrat HSS with emg (pretty ugly though lol). I'm looking for something inexpensive and my search is ending on those 3: Squier Vintage Modified 70 strat, LTD ST-213 HSS and Yamaha Pacifica 112M. What do you think? Am I better sell the pickups and loose money or those guitars can be good enough with the mods?

What's in the LP and Vandenberg? The SD might work better for you in one of those.

Re: What guitar for a Screamin Demon?

In the LP I have Gibson '61 and like them, but I'm looking too put a Slash set in the future.
In the Vandenberg I have the stock Peavey pickups, some said they are a similar to Full Shred and honestly I like that guitar as is

Keep the pickups for the minute. You'll lose out about the same amount whether you sell them earlier or later, and it gives you time to consider your options. Maybe slowly assemble a guitar from Warmoth and do a simple tru-oil finish, or find a guitar style you've always wanted, or maybe a wood combo you want to try out and look for a guitar/parts with that combo.

Get a cheap Basswood guitar...I absolutely love the SH-12 in Basswood!

Re: What guitar for a Screamin Demon?

I'll buy that Demon if you don't want it!
Also, I think it would be AWESOME in a semihollow guitar, or anything that sounds dark and fat.
Definitely not my cuppa tea in a Strat.

Squier Vintage Modified is basswood :)
But I was thinking of LTD because screaming demon was design for GL esp guitars, which are maple/alder, and frankly I like the ST-213 for the price.

I can sell the bundle (pickups + pots + switches) but not the demon alone as I will be stocked with them and nothing to do with it.

Well, personally you should keep it...I haven't heard it in any wood I didn't like ;) just prefer Basswood the best

I have 2 (neck and bridge) in an alder bodied Partsocaster. They're right at home in it.

I just "built" a guitar on Warmoth website and it will cost me $730 CND vs around $260. I know the parts are better quality but will it result in a better guitar as I have no skill? Not sure. Assembling by a luthier will cost me $250-$300, so near $1000: way to expensive for this project :(

I would put Warmoth's quality up there with the American Standard Strats--very good quality. A cheaper option would be to get an Unfished body from eBay (I highly recommend Richard Saylor) and then get a Warmoth neck. Going with a hand rubbed oil finish is cheaper than painting...several options to get the price down...

Re: What guitar for a Screamin Demon?

Maybe shoot for a used MIM strat or tele with a humbucker route? The Demon works great for me in strats.

Re: What guitar for a Screamin Demon?

Squier '51 is a fun HS guitar. You can get used one for less than $100.

Re: What guitar for a Screamin Demon?

Why do you have an EMG in a superstrat? That is where you need the Demon.

Also, did you severely overpay for the pickup? If it is unused, it won't lose much value when you sell it on Ebay. I've bought many like-new pickups on Ebay for 10 dollars less than their new list price. Saves me money, and a pickup is a pickup.

I agree, the Demon is great for a Superstrat...personally, I do not like EMG's in 6 string guitars. I like EMG's for bass but not guitar...

Re: What guitar for a Screamin Demon?

Checkout a 99-up Squire Stagemaster. They're great cheap guitars, alder bodies (granted they're 4 or 5 piece) Licensed Floyd with a brass block, and I believe the Deluxe model is neck-through.

Sounding quite good and don't want to touch that one.

I didn't overpay for the pickup, I just bought CTS pots and Switchcraft switch/jack at the same time. I can sell the pickups at 1/2 price (canadian market is terrible) but will get stock with parts. So that's the reason I'm looking for a guitar that the Demon will sound good in.
