So I'm a not a big blues guy, but sometimes I like to play a little straight up blues to some heavy blues. I have 210 dollars credit at my local guitar shop, and have my eyes on a demo Gibson Les Paul 60's tribute w/ p90's for 699, or I'm looking at a mexi strat, probably an hss. I keep going back and forth. Both are sweet. Thoughts?

Re: What guitar for some blues

Well, I have both of the guitars you mentioned in your post, but for blues and blues rock I like my Hagstrom Viking more than the LP or strat.

If I had to choose between the two you mentioned I would go for the LP, though.

Just my opinion.

Re: What guitar for some blues

Strats, Les Pauls, SGs, Teles... they can all do certain blues tones well. What kind of blues do you want to play?

Re: What guitar for some blues

More aggressive blues. Blues rock if u will.

Re: What guitar for some blues

I have played many blues festivals with 2 Steinbergers. And I didn't wear a fedora or a bowling shirt.
Whatever guitar feels better to you- both will work.

Re: What guitar for some blues

Out of those two...it depends. You've got to play them. For a fatter and dirtier sound, go for the P90's. For a less midrangey stinging/sizzling sound, go for the Strat.

Pretty much any guitar ever made will work for blues. Its all how you attack those strings.

Re: What guitar for some blues

Blues is not a guitar or amp or anything else except a feeling...

If you want to play blues then play blues...Strat, Les Paul, Gretsch, 335, D-28, Jackson, Ibanez...whatever you want to use.

ANY guitar wil do for blues except that strat-thing you mentioned :angryfire

. . . i am not a start fan, at all !

Just look at what Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, Left Lane Cruiser, Jack White, the Black Keys, Seasick Steve and Scott H. Biram, use for their version/interpretation of the blues.

Even at only $299.00, this will make a greta blues/slide guitar :

Artists that i mentioned above :

Re: What guitar for some blues

Also, word is Ralph Macchio picked up guitar playing as a hobby during the movie, and still plays.

That's cool. Having Arlen Roth for a teacher has got to be pretty good way to get started!
