Just one guitar? To answer you question, probably a Telecaster.

Generic Superstrats. Not sure I could really pinpoint a brand because Hair Metal was all over the place from B.C. Rich to Frankenstrats.

Like, what brand are these (rhetorical)?

Oddly, the greatest rock bands have always "turned out" to be ones with stratocasters...

Dire Straits, Rainbow, Eppu Normaali, Iron Maiden...

Jazzmaster. Between Sonic Youth, Pavement, Dinosaur Jr., etc.

Superstrats. If I had the choice I would have chosen Kramer, as they were the ones who were able to take the hot-rodded design of Charvel and produce them for a mass audience, and ended up being the largest competitor in the glory days of the design.

That being said, I like a lot of music with different types of guitar, and the music I work with on a daily basis has no guitar in it whatsoever.

Les Paul, followed closely by the superstrat. Kiss was my first and favorite band. But Randy Rhodes, REO Speedwagon in the late 70's and during my formative teen years in the midst of hair metal.... Great White, GNR and a few other bands still rocked hard with LP's. I still love my hair metal and most of that was a strat and a JB, but I love mahogany capped with maple in a HH configuration the most.

Re: What guitar has been the major influence in your favorite music?

I voted others. Much of my fav music was done on a Charvel, Jackson, Kramer, BC Rich.. (80s metal and Gerardo of Pat Benatar) And lots has been done on LPs .(Gary Richrath/REO). And, in the case of Zep, though Pagey used a Paul in most live footage, a tele was used on much of the recording

Probably custom BC Riches, if I correctly recognize the band as Tigertailz ;)

Stratocaster, for ever and one.

That’s a completely subjective statement. Most of the bands/players I like were Les Paul players.

Oh..... So Led Zep, Allman Brothers, ZZ Top, Thin Lizzy, Kiss, April Wine..... don't count according to you? WHATEV, man.

Re: What guitar has been the major influence in your favorite music?

Can’t give just one.

My favorite guitarists are B.B. King (Gibson ES-335/355), Albert King (Flying V), Cream era Eric Clapton (Les Paul or SG) and Jimi Hendrix (Stratocaster)...but of those guitars, I only own an ES-335 and a Strat.

Sorry, I meant to write "...greatest rock bands for me have turned out to be..."

Subjective response to subjective poll....

I might count ZZ Top and Led Zep to that list as well, but most bands I've listened pretty much all my life have turned out to be strat players mainly.

Re: What guitar has been the major influence in your favorite music?

I play strats mostly, but the music I listen to most is dominated by Les Pauls. Of course Dickey Betts still sounded like himself during that period when he played his 56 strat along side Jack Pearson playing a G&L strat.

Re: What guitar has been the major influence in your favorite music?

Well, there isn't just one...
Super strats, from people like Allan Holdsworth and Steve Morse.
Semi Hollows, from people like John McLaughlin and Steve Howe.
LPs, from people like Robert Fripp and Al Di Meola.

But I learned that no matter what, I gotta find something that works for me. So far, it has been some variation of a super strat.

Re: What guitar has been the major influence in your favorite music?

It's tough for me to even pick a genre. I'll put my phone on shuffle and I could end up hearing Billie Holiday, SRV, and Distrurbed back to back.

Re: What guitar has been the major influence in your favorite music?

Something about Les Pauls and Strats into Marshalls.

Of course the greats could have done most of it with just about anything.

The weird thing is, for a very long time I didn’t even think about Gilmour being a Strat player. Just a Guitarist.
