I picked Jackson. It makes for a pretty big blip on my musical radar for a brand with such relatively small market share.

The tricky thing about hard rock and metal is that sometimes it doesn’t matter what the headstock says on it. If you have the same basic construction and an appropriate choice in pickups, the guitars are often effectively interchangeable. Blame certain types of active pickups, I guess.

I listen to many genres, but for what I play myself the British blues/rock guitarists are my favorite style, which was primarily Gibsons with a strong representation of Les Pauls: Page, Clapton (Cream era), Jeff Beck (Rod Stewart era), Peter Green, Danny Kirwan, Mick Abrahams, Robin Trower (Procol Harum era), Mick Taylor, Paul Kossoff, Peter Frampton, Kim Simmonds, Luther Grosvenor, Martin Barre, Andy Powell, Andy Latimer, Mick Ralphs, etc.

What a great list of guitarists. I heard a lot of these artists as a younger kid on the radio (mid 70's), but I really didn't fixate on any band or style of music until I was a bit older. When I started playing guitar more seriously as an adult, learning to play opened me up to a lot of those guys as great guitarists, where before they were just cool songs on the radio.

Tone wise it's a Les Paul or a copy of it's formula, Iceman etc.... with a PAF type humbucker.

Honorable mention to 80's shred sticks with EMG's.

Tough call, late '60's - early '70's Rolling Stones were HUGELY influential for me. Telecasters tuned to Open-G matched with Mick Taylor's Les Pauls / SG's were it, just never liked the sound of those Ampeg amps they used live...

Re: What guitar has been the major influence in your favorite music?

My vote was for "Others", Strat w/bridge humbucker. As a player, I liked humbuckers, but for financial reasons, I was stuck with a 1973 Strat. Ok guitar, got it cheap, and I hated the single coils.

Along comes a regional band out of Milwaukee, Bad Boy, and one of the guitarists, Steve Grimm, has a Strat with a full size bucker in the bridge. This is prior to a factory model for this. Voila! I got a Dimarzio X2N, and a drill to use as a router, and I never looked back.

I have come to appreciate single coils since then!

I thought Kurt only played Japanese Strats when he wanted something to smash...

Re: What guitar has been the major influence in your favorite music?

Apparently Strats were a substantial part of his live and studio quiver. But yeah I'd heard about that too, like on the In Utero tour he'd have a couple nice signature Mustangs then switch to a Strat to smash.

I voted Stratocaster.

I've owned a Leo Fender-designed guitar my whole playing career, from my first Duo-Sonic, a Tele Thinline, my 1960 Strat, the Music Man Sabres and now my G&Ls. The G&L Legacys, S500s and Comanches are my ultimate Strat. Clapton, Hendrix, Beach Boys and so many more. Don't forget Buddy Merrill and Neil LeVang on "The Lawrence Welk Show"!

But I've owned Gibsons too...the ES-330, an ES-150DCN, an LP Special, and now 14 LPs and 335s. Again, so many great Gibson players.

And finally, I have Martins. I had one since 1973. Couldn't live without a great acoustic dread. And when you look at all the music made on Martins...it's a pretty impressive list.

Pointies...so I chose "others" (BC RICH)

...and superstrats too :bigthumb:

Re: What guitar has been the major influence in your favorite music?

Pretty much Gary Moore is the first name that comes to my mind with a Les Paul then Phil Keaggy and yes also Di Meola.
I was a real big hair metal fan and still LOVE power metal so the Superstat is my choice most times as a player for myself. Have a real soft spot in particular for Carvins/Keisels but also really love my Washburn MG's and some of the old Kramer USA guitars + a couple Hamers. Owned a BUNCH of different Superstrats over the years but always seem to come back to Carvins so---.

No Trower from later than Ph? Cmon Blue, send em A little bit of Sympathy.

Re: What guitar has been the major influence in your favorite music?

Charvel/Jackson is the name of glam metal, pointy headstocks are running rampant in the metal zone

Re: What guitar has been the major influence in your favorite music?

Definitely the Stratocaster (something based off the Strat like Charvels/Jacksons)
