What happened to BBE?

i never had a BBE I didnt loath the sound of later for guitar....

Sort of like hitting a contour switch and exaggerating the highs and lows

-which is often a recipe for.a guitar sounding terrible and/or stepping all over other instruments.

BBE seemed to be everywhere in the late 90s/2000s. I never noticed an issue with my sound that needed to be 'excited' or 'maximized' though.

To me . . . if a chorus pedal does 0 - 100, a BBE does 0 - 1. BBE denies it's an affect, but it is. Very, very subtle. I like it.
