What heck are PRS guitars good for anyway?

Re: What heck are PRS guitars good for anyway?

I have played the best guitars in the world including Gibson, Fender, Jackson, ESP, Martin. There is no jealousy on this end. PRS guitars are lovely looking guitars, but are overpriced, and do compare in tone to the brands I have mentioned. I am just stating the truth, and nothing but the truth.:smokin:

Alrighty then:

I am looking to buy a Paul Reed Smith Axe. My question is, do the stock pups sound good? or should I replace them with a set of Duncans?

So you want one or have one. Is it hanging over your fireplace or what?

Re: What heck are PRS guitars good for anyway?

A Clue is Irrelevent on this matter. The Irony of it is, you need to have a couple of drinks and compare the actual Tone of the subject at hand.:beerchug:

You still haven't figured out the point of this thread have you?. I refuse to have a battle of wits with an unarmed man.

Re: What heck are PRS guitars good for anyway?

A PRS never has, and never will, have the Tone of a good Les Paul.:27: :smokin: YMMV.

Absolutely. PRS doesn't have the tone of a good Les Paul, they have the tone of the best Les Paul you've never heard. :p

Re: What heck are PRS guitars good for anyway?

FENDER SUCKS!!!

Now I've made a contribution to the thread without having to read anything that anyone wrote before me... What are forums for anyways? It's just like walking around downtown and yelling at people stopped at red lights.

Seriously I've never played a PRS that wasn't one of their import models, I really want to but the Long & McQuade in Winnipeg guards them very carefully, they'll let you play a $4000 custom shop Gibson, but when it comes to a PRS at half the price no one under the age of 30 is allowed to touch one... :fing25:

Re: What heck are PRS guitars good for anyway?

What does the term "hand made" mean anyway nowadays? I work at PRS and 80% of the guitar making process is hands on. Yes the guitars are cut using CNC machines but if they were all done by hand like the elitists think they should be, people would be complaining that they are inconsistent. PRS are very nice guitars and the parts on them are very high quality. Gibson on the other hand has no sense of quality control, not saying that they are bad guitars but i've played several gibsons that just sound and play awful in the shop, more than ones that sound good that is. Also, I don't think I've seen a fender in the past 10 years that I couldn't fit a credit card between the neck and the body in the pocket.

Re: What heck are PRS guitars good for anyway?

I "get" the thread but I have to chime in....

I don't understand why a solid piece of wood carved by hand would sound better than a soild piece of wood carved via a computer controled machine.

Keep of the good work Mykel!

Re: What heck are PRS guitars good for anyway?

ok, the Joke has gone too far here. never make fun of Opeth, or i'll come over to your place and beat the crap out of you with your own lame and crappy Rickenbacker :firedevil

Heh, bet it doesn't sound as cold and ****ty as those PRS do for death metal.

But the guitar isn't what I'm bashing, it's the un-imaginative crapply playing and horrible singing that seems like a parody cover band.

I think when he used the outhouse he frogot and left a corn cob up his ass.

Of course I know the point of this thread. From my experience over the years, most Pro Players that get great Tone from their guitar and amp, Do Not use PRS guitars. They use Fenders or Gibsons for the most part.
Are you a Pro Player? Do you make money playing guitar?
What's your deal dude?:firing:

+1

Big names got to be Big names for a reason, and don't you froget it!

To add: Ted nudgent played a PRS at a concert I went to and it sounded like ass compaired to what ever the gibson hollow body is that he uses. (It reminds me of an ES-137, but I have no clue what it is.)

My first paid gig was in 1987. My "deal" is that you are throwing your opinion around like its fact. Gibson has been around since the late 1800's. Fender since the 1940's. Of course the list of people who have played them will be longer than PRS which started in the 1980's. That doesn't prove jack. This also means the number of star struck fanboy's buying fender and Gibson because so and so plays it will be a lot greater. If you prefer something else fine. If you can't make a PRS sing then you need to go practice. Either way your BS about price, finish and all of the other arguments are just ridiculous and misleading to people without first hand knowledge of PRS guitars. You have yet to come up with a single item to support your BS that doesn't involve theories, or extrapolations from observation.

Damn right. that's why I sold my LP, IT SUCKED.

My Strat was playing up til some guys in the forum helped me fix it. So much for factory set. This manual is full of lies! *tosses manual into the fire*

At least PRS are playable. Ok that's an understatement. They are quality guitars.

Ed Roman really pays out PRS for not using ebony fretboards and being CNC cut.

Who/How can one buy Private stock PRS?
