What humbucker for my strat?

I always have bad luck picking these, but partialy because in the past I never had the right amp, now I do and I need a new pup for my strat. I have posted a sound bite of my playing style with the amp I will be using. I play mostly Rock and I am looking for a bridge humbucker only. Please note that I am in the process of making a new pickgaurd it will only have one humbucker and one volume and no other tone or volume controls, simple as can be. So what humbucker will sound good in a strat based on my style??

This clip is from my mini plexi on 2 at bed room level, no pedals.

Jb............

a blurb of the JB...."The Seymour Duncan SH-4 JB Humbucker uses a completely balanced coil configuration to produce great harmonics and a high output with just the right blend of sustain and distortion. With the Seymour Duncan Humbucker you get the best of both worlds: from sweet warm tones to raw rock-and-roll."

I love great harmonics!

SH-5 Custom! Best humbucker for strat imo.. versityle and great for rock to heavier stuff.

Re: What humbucker for my strat?

The JB will probally be ideal followed by the Custom.

Re: What humbucker for my strat?

CC or JB ... try one and if you don't dig it, return during the 'no sucky tone' guarantee period for the other

Re: What humbucker for my strat?

How about this.......any of them. Why do I say that? Because if it's the only pickup in the guitar you aren't matching it up with another humbucker or a single-coil or two single-coils. It's just you, your fingers, and the volume knob when it comes to getting different tones. The only ones I'd shy away from are the Invader and Live Wire Heavy Metal. Those simply aren't the right fit. Everything else is fair game, IMO. It's a matter of if you like vintage output, medium output or high output.

Re: What humbucker for my strat?

Try the Custom Custom...that's my favorite pickup I've tried in my strat.

I am leaning to your recomendation since you tried it in you'r strat, but also I like the fact that the sh11-CC uses a Alnico II magnet.

Do you know what kind of wood your strat is made from that used this pup? Is it in the Warmoth strat?

+1 couldn't agree more! So how does output affect tone?

These are my picks so far:

SH-11 Custom Custom

SHP-G1 Pearly Gates

SH-4 JB

APH-1 Alnico II pro

I would like to know what type of magnets the JB and PG's use, don't know if its stated.

Re: What humbucker for my strat?

Lower output lets you hear the guitar's natural tone more and it's more controllable. They get cleaner, aren't as compressed as higher output pickups, and just more open sounding. That's just the nature of it all.

The PG is an alnico II. The JB is alnico V. I've used both in my Strats. I like the CC more though. It just works better for me. It splits well too so think about putting in a push/pull pot.

I will put in a push pull pot, good idea! I think I like the alnico II better, from some of my past pups. What was your take on the PG pup vs the CC what type of guitar were they in?

Here is the pickgaurd I just made from 1/16" aluminum with a thin coat of clear just on the top side. I am not sure how it will affect the tone though being aluminum.

Re: What humbucker for my strat?

That's a nice looking guard. To be honest, I'm not sure how that material will affect tone.

The PG is brighter and more open than the CC. Both are good in their own right. It just boiled down to personal taste after that.

I will keep you posted on the tone results it will be about two weeks though. I am liking the CC more and more, and I don't wan't a bright sound either.
