What humbucker to put in tele neck pos?

I want to put a humbucker in my tele, neck position. It's an American Deluxe, ash body and rosewood fretboard. Looking for a slightly modern tone with lots of sustain, any suggestions?

what pup do you have in the bridge? its pretty easy for a neck humbucker to over power a bridge single coil.

the aph neck or jazz neck are two good options

Does it absolutely have to be a humbucker per se? Or do you have a HB-sized hole? I ask, because a Phat Cat is a killer Tele neck pup.

Other than that, a Jazz is my favorite. (But that's paired with a bridge JB. Seymours favorite combo.) :)

I once had a Tele Deluxe and the Fender humbuckers made it sound muddy. The Tele design makes the guitar focus general resonance towards the higher frequencies, so while I agree that the SD Jazz pickup may be a good solution, depending on the end result, don't be surprised if you want to adjust the tone away from the high frequencies either with adjustments to the pot specs or using another pickup tuned slightly lower in frequency. To me, I'd never buy a Tele again without changing the pickups and while I'd stick with the single-coil sized in the bridge, I'd go with a high-end custom pickup, choosing the bridge model first, and then balancing out the remainder with a low-noise neck pickup.

It has vintage noiseless pups right now. I'm thinking I'll get what I want in the neck and then look at what I might put in the bridge. What is aph?

I'm thinking humbuckers cause right now I play a strat which I love, but I would like to have the noise-cancelling and higher output to play around with.

centerstagesilver, I agree. Any thought about what you might put in the bridge to matchup with the jazz? single coil size humbucker or single coil.

Re: What humbucker to put in tele neck pos?

I have an old Jazz in the neck of my mahogany tele and it sounds great. Right now I have a lil 59 in the bridge, but I have gone through a ton of different ones in the brigde and just haven't found the right fit for it yet.

If you want to stay with existing 250k pots, go with Vintage mini or Jazz. '59, AIIPro (APH) and Phat Cat need 500k pots. For the bridge, pretty warm pickup like APTL1 and JD work well with 250k pots or 500k pots.

If you want to stay Duncan, the above rec's for Seth, Jazz, Phat Cat, A2, are great. One of my better sounding teles had a Seth in the neck....beautiful tone! Also love the JAzz.

A few other ucker made forbrands to consider, (in no particular order); Dimarzio 36th PAF, Tonerider A lV, Tonerider Rebel 90, Stew Mac Golden Age.....forum member Zhangliqun winds some fantastic pickups, including the 'Telebucker' which is designed for the neck slot. I've had one of his PureHandwound buckers in the neck of my tele for 6-7 years now and it's fantastic.

I went and listened to the clean samples of all the SD humbuckers, for me the Jazz had the right mix of sparkle and wooliness(best way I can describe it). I like the idea of looking at the other manufacturers you mentioned, but there are so many choices it gets over whelming. Could you suggest something similar to the SD Jazz made by another shop? Thanks.
