What humbucker would the Custom P90 be closest to?

Re: What humbucker would the Custom P90 be closest to?

I use one in my Les Paul Special. It sounds like a loud, strong, not thin P90, but I wouldn't say that it comes close to the sound of any humbucker I know of (except maybe the P90 stack).

How about a Phat Cat? Even tho it's not a bucker it fits in a bucker routing....

Re: What humbucker would the Custom P90 be closest to?

The Phat Cat for the true single coil tone, but it is mellower and more vintage sounding...
A traditional humbucker that would be close would be the Custom or even better the Custom/JB Hybrid with a Ceramic magnet

The custom or a hybrid won't have anything in common with a P90 will they? Unless the custom p90 doesn't sound even close to a more "classic" p90?

Re: What humbucker would the Custom P90 be closest to?

Read his question... he is asking to what humbucker does it sound closest to.

Of course, no humbucker will sound exactly like a P-90... the Custom P-90 does not sound like a vintage P-90 at all, it is much more aggressive.

The Hybrid will have some single coil characteristics because of the mis-matched coils. The Alnico 59/Custom Hybrid is actually similar to the Phat Cat.

Well, I guess it depends on how you understand the question... The way I saw it, I though he was going for a closer to p90 sound in a humbucker equipped guitar, hence my phat cat remark.

If he's really looking for a humbucker itself, then I guess you are totally right....:)

Mini humbucker, SM1, SM2, SM3 [/broken record :)]

Re: What humbucker would the Custom P90 be closest to?

I guess a better way to ask is does the Custom P90 has some good crunch to it. I see that Dimarzio has a Super distortion P90, Duncan needs a distortion P90.
