I was browsing over a random guitar maker's website (I don't even know how I got there in the first place) and I stumbled upon a guitar that had an interesting concept.

Second guitar pictured. It has a Schaller hardtail bridge w/fine tuners combined with a Floyd-esque locking nut. I've never seen this before, I always wondered what would happen if a guitar was set up in this manner.

I was just wondering what kind of tuning stability this would provide?

Extremely good tuning stability, like a Floyd only better, actually. Just a bit more of a pain than your standard hardtail and locking tuners set-up.

BTW on the first guitar, does the headstock double as a can opener?

The Ibanez JS1200 (I believe that's the correct number, the one that only came in gold) had a locking hardtail w/ lock nut as well. It's tuning and ****roaches are all that would survive a nuclear blast.

I think in this guitar's case the bridge isn't locking... I don't know of any readily-available locking hardtail bridges.

There's a locking Floyd Rose Speedloader hardtail.

The bridge is not locking, it works just fine, as well as a floyd, and it´s been around for 30 years, nobody just ever cared for it

My question would be "Why?"

A stoptail guitar that's well set up shouldn't need a locking nut, IMO. Even without locking tuners, you oughta be able to do at least a minor third bend and come back in tune.

You could probably convince me about the fine tuners just out of convenience but as for the locking nut, fuggetaboutit.

i saw the satriani floyd hardtail somewhere once.. and like fretfire said, tune it properly and not even a nuclear blast can knock it out of tune
