what is a good alternative to gibson burstbuckers?

Re: what is a good alternative to gibson burstbuckers?

Seth Lovers for about $99 each. Or Pearly Gates. Both great alternatives to the a2 Burstbuckers...and probably even better. Lew

Man, I'd really love to make a snide remark about the "probably", but I'm really digging the 500T/496R set I just got :smack:

That's why I said probably....and not definately. :) Many players seem to prefer the Duncans but Gibson has thier fans too.

I guess you can't deny that a pickup is cool when you really want to hate it, but like it anyway :)

Sorry for getting off topic. Lew's suggestion of the Seths is a good one... what about Antiquities?

Re: what is a good alternative to gibson burstbuckers?

Antiquities are fabulous. I was just trying to save the guy a few bucks! So is it true that a Burstbucker is $159? If so the Antiquity is a steal at about $120 as is the Seth at about $99. Lew

Burstbuckers can be had for around $100 a pop. I'm not crazy about the set I have, but some guys like 'em.

Hi,
I had Burstbuckers issued in two of my Les Pauls, and prefer the SD Antiquities and Alnico II Pro Humbucker sets that replaced them. Is it just me? Gibson probably thinks that they are pretty hot stuff, and don't have to worry about cost / product, although I have to say that I'm a Les Paul fan in spite of the costs. If the Gibson's really are to be found at $100, then the extra cost of changing into SD Seth/Alnico II Pro/Antiquities humbuckers is worth the price in my opinion. You get what you pay for! Not much help here, sorry.

a good set of 59's wouldn't be too bad either, they should be about the same price as the seths

Less...about $70 each for 59's vs. about $99. each for Seths. Seths have the nickel cover though.

You're right...59's are a great alternative to Burstbuckers or any buckers. Probably my favorite Duncan Humbuckers are the 59, Seth and Antiquity....then the Pearly Gates and Custom Custom.

I'm replacing the Tom Holmes humbuckers in my Les Paul with a set of Antiquities BTW. I want to see if I like the neck pickup a little better...looking for a little clearer tone.

Been going through my Antiquitys and picking out the strongest bridge and lowest DC Resistance for the neck.

Haven't found any Antiquity bridges that hit 9K yet....

Lew...did you try the PG in your Paul yet? What did you think?

I didn't. I like it in my Strat and decided to leave it there.

Doc Barlo kinda talked me into going with the Antiquities.

I've had them in a Hamer and really liked them and figured I should give them a try in my Les Paul.

I love the Holmes bridge humbucker but the neck humbucker could be a little more open and clearer. That is exactly the way the Antiquities sounded in my Hamer so I'm thinking they should be even nicer in my 2000 '59 LP Historic.

Truth is, I've never tried an Antiquity that didn't blow me away!
