What Is A Good Auto-Wah Pedal?

Re: What Is A Good Auto-Wah Pedal?

I pull out the old Digitech Envelope filter when I need that kind of thing. That's always been my favorite.

NOT the Boss.

Geez, my honesty is gonna come back to haunt me when I try to sell this stuff.

I didn't like the Boss, tried the Digitech and returned it.

I love the Mutron II. Somewhat expensive but head and shoulders above the others.

If you could find one, the Mars, Mini Yesman, is a very good envelope filter. It's one of the best I've had, and I've always used auto wahs.

Re: What Is A Good Auto-Wah Pedal?

Definitely the Electroharmonix Q Tron. I even owned a Mutron, the classic envelope filter, and sold it to get the Q Tron. It was such a fun pedal that I regret selling it.

Re: What Is A Good Auto-Wah Pedal?

Has anyone ever tried the Ibanez?

I have lately been becoming more and more a fan of the Ibanez pedal line. They are very nice pedals for the $$ amount. I don't know if their production of an auto-wah would be up to par though.

I'll second that one. I used it for a while, but I fried it with a bad power supply. Great pedal!

Re: What Is A Good Auto-Wah Pedal?

Yeah, I really shouldn't have sold my Q Tron. There's no comparison between the EH and all the small Boss/DOD/Ibanez pedals. They just sound puny.

The only envelope filter I've ever messed with that's better than the Q Tron is outrageously expensive.....the Lovetone Meatball. I don't even think they make them anymore. I never owned one, but borrowed one for awhile.

Re: What Is A Good Auto-Wah Pedal?

top 3 ar the MuTron, Q Tron and the Meatball...however, even the reissue Mu Trons sell for big bucks, are noisy...the Meatball is hella cool but is way out of production and they pull, easy $750 on the used market.

Just get the Q Tron, if space is an issue the mini Q Tron is hella cool...

Re: What Is A Good Auto-Wah Pedal?

Q tron for the win. For a reference tone, check out 311 - Beyond the Gray sky. Good use of the pedal

Re: What Is A Good Auto-Wah Pedal?

I have a Q-Tron+...I run a distortion in the effects loop with the response set to slow. Some crazy sh!t comes out the other end! Love it!

Re: What Is A Good Auto-Wah Pedal?

Maxon AF-9 is really nice, I played one, real smooth and not super bright. One that I really dig is actually the DOD FX25B. It is cheap and made even cheaper lol, but it has a really gross 'throb' on the low end that just sounds great.

I have a mini qtron somewhere, and it's too tame... my brother has the bass digitech synth wah and it's pretty rad... especially on octave env. setting.

Re: What Is A Good Auto-Wah Pedal?

Dammit. This thread reminds me of how much I liked the Q Tron. They just take so much pedalboard real estate. I just noticed the new enclosures, which are smaller. The regular one is fine, but the here's the plus model....added loop.

Here's the song referenced earlier....311 Beyond the Gray Sky. One of the better songs I've heard from 311.

While the Electro-Harmonix stuff is probably the holy grail, I had a 70's MXR Envelope Filter That sounded pretty cool, But those are going for a premium now,Unless you want to build a clone. I replaced it with a Line 6 Octo filter. If you already have a docking pedal? You can score a Module for $20 !!

Re: What Is A Good Auto-Wah Pedal?

I've got this old guy, which is kinda hard to beat.

The Q-Tron sounded metallic and a lot less funky to me than the original.

If I was going to get something else, mainly for the smaller footprint, I'd get one of these, the BJF Mad Professor Snow White Auto Wah

Cheers....................................... wahwah

Re: What Is A Good Auto-Wah Pedal?

anybody here used the Gig FX Mega wah yet? It's got an auto wah function as well...

Re: What Is A Good Auto-Wah Pedal?

It's a Multi effects unit, but the Roger Linn AdrenaLinn III has my favorite sound of all time.

Evidenced here --- GAWD DAME!
