David Bray is THE MAN if you want a Marshall 1959 SLP brown sound amp. I've got one and it totally kills! I actually sent mine back to adjust the mod for current needs adding a bit more brightness than his typical mod. Also added a Line Out and a Power Amp in feature to power a preamp if needed.

Here's a clip of my amp David sent me for approval. Really captures that tone. Played thru a Les Paul into a mid 70's vintage Marshall 4x12 wich 25w rola Celestions.

Fan-frickin-tastic, ION COngrats!...I've not heard one "live", but those Bray mods IMO are the best marshall mods I've heard on the net...they really retain the old NMV sound and character and beef em up without getting into 800 tone territory. It's very "classic" or 70's sounding as opposed to Trace and Scott's mods which are tighter more modern 80s/90s type sounds.

Ed came up with the phrase, and yeah, I think he was originally referring to Alex's tone as well as his.

That Bray clip was pretty brown. Nice.

I never did like Alex's snare drum sound. Eddie's tone on the first album was great however...

I prefer the South Park explanation even though it's probably apocryphal...

yup - it was blues saraceno ... saw him in a clinic back when he first burst on the scene about 10 ~ 15 yrs ago or so .. was SUCH a hyperactive kid ... clearly had happenin' chops though ...
