What is it about the Les Paul...

Re: What is it about the Les Paul...

I have about 28 guitars, shame I don't know the exact number! I've been on a buying spree lately. If I had to sell them all with the exception of one that one would be my number one Les Paul. Every gig I take three guitars. One of my strats, one of my "other" guitars (Explorer, V, Tele, PRS) and always my #1 Les Paul.......I will be buried with it someday!

What it is about Les Pauls? They just look so damn sexy!

Besides... nothing says, "I'm here to kick your ass" like a Les Paul!

Re: What is it about the Les Paul...

Only real men play Les Pauls. The frail and weak complain about the weight. The jealous complain about muddy sound. The insane say they suck. The older guys have just expanded and have given other guitars a chance, but the Les Paul is always in the back of their mind. The younger guys--they're either enlightened or they're not. No in betweens.

Yes, only real men play Les Pauls. :friday: (Photograph of bodybuilder playing a Les Paul should be here but I could't fine one. I know, it kills the effect but just use your imagination, sheesh!)

Funny you said it... I saw it on TV but couldn't find a picture - only an article online:

Madonna Guitar to Be Auctioned

A Gibson Les Paul custom-designed for Madonna for her Drowned World tour in 2001 -- the first time the singer played guitar onstage -- will be auctioned on eBay beginning on Oct. 6. After the tour Madge signed the guitar, the only survivor of two identical models made for her, and gave it to John Griswold, a veteran guitar technician (Eagles, George Harrison, Shania Twain) who served in that role on the Drowned World tour.

What's in a (tour) name? In a strange twist, Griswold is parting with the guitar because his family lost most of their possessions in Hurricane Katrina -- they were living in New Orleans when it flooded.

The opening bid for the guitar is $49,999. The seller says it has been appraised at $400,000-600,000

Madonna is the man!!!!

Re: What is it about the Les Paul...

I love the Les Paul tone, the palm mute friendly bridge, the tilted back neck.

I think a lot of why I like the tone so much is my love of powerful V8 engines growing up. A lot of the tone I end up with has a lot of muscle car element to it...at least in my own mind. The tone from the Les Paul is often criticized as being dull. And for this, I say hell yes! Much as a high octane fuel burns slower, it allows the the use of high compression, and other goodies for ultimately higher horsepower! The Les Paul is the slower burning start of the music chain, and when paired with the proper musical mechanicals creates crushing loads of music power!:burnout:
