What is SD's best humbucker?

Re: What is SD's best humbucker?

I like 59b in strat, it has some nice bass and low midrange to even out with a strat's natural brightness and high mids. It works great for clean, pop, rock, is nice/clear for metal and punk, and other high gain stuff.

I can relate to the dilemma faced my many here lately. I'm going to get Duncan's for my LP but I've come across so many differing opinions I get 'paralysis by analysis' and end up doing nothing. I'm pretty sure I'll go for the Alnico II Pro for the neck but there are many disagreements about the bridge-some love the CC. Some love the Jazz/JB others hate it, then there's always the Seth set, the PG's...........too many options........... Maybe I'll go the (gasp) DiMarzio route.........

I think some guys change pickups when they should be changing amps. I think that the amps effect on the overall tone is greater than the role of the pickup. Sometimes changing tubes is the factor that makes your currently unsatisfactory pickups sound like you want.

I also think that the sound in our heads is really just sound in our head. ;)

If we can't find a SD pickup to suit our needs...I find it hard to believe when a player says "there isn't a SD pickup for me".

Well some people like me own more than one amp or method of reproduction, and have friends with amps too :) I was merely changing from the generic ones I had to ones I knew were better, and I wasn't disappointed either :)

You changed from generic pickups to Seymour Duncan?

I like my 7.2K Antiquity with a full strength alnico-5 ( the shorter 5 like in the JB)
