What is the best and cheapest head + cab ?

This is purely out of curiosity, because i have no money whatsoever for a head+cab atm...or any time in the near future.

But, what do you personally think is the best head + cab ? Basically, which one gives you the most value for your money ?

Based on their slogan "Made by hand in the USA" i'm gonna go on a limb here and say these amps are probably wildly expensive.

Used Peavey heads and cabs. Those usually pop up on local craigslists for little money.

i have a 15watt Peavey bass amp, and for how cheap and simple it is, it provides good tone...for the price. Can't compare it to anything expensive.

Based on what you just said I'm going to go out on a limb here and say you just went to their homepage and immediately closed it without trying to find one at a retailer.

The homepage of Jet City amps currently has a huge banner for their 'American Customs Cabinets' and it says that the cabs are made in the United States. Apparently he didn't look beyond the opening banner of the website.

It totally depens what type of tone you are shooting for (...or the buyer).

I saw (just a few months ago) a 100% MINT Carvin Legacy head + 4X12 cab on eBay for $800.00 BIN !!!


It i lived in the USA, i would have snaped it up, without thinking twice - FACT !

Best for cheapest I've seen is a Peavey 100W Windsor head with matching 4-12 for $300.

Craigslist is your friend.

I would not mind an amp that has a few dings or looks older, im purely about having a good sounding one and a proper functioning one. When the time comes, im 99% gonna look for a used one.

Craigslist and pawnshops - the sky is the limit!

A DIME solidstate is pretty sweet and they seem to be on sale these days.

The Jet City is prety bad@$$

I would think, based on Jollys experince, that Blackstar would be worth the extra coin.

I meant the tube amps like the XXX, Classics, 5150, etc... If you're really patient and have some negotiation skills you can get one of those for around $450 or less. Peavey cabs are dirt cheap at around $270 and sound really decent with the stock Sheffields. The straight front ones are killer.

Keep an eye on the local Craiglist.

could easily get an orange tiny terror head for $400 used and cab for $300 by ORANGE :)

I found my Peavey Classic 100 Head and 4x12 cab on craigslist really cheep. Love it.
