What is the BEST chorus pedal???

Re: What is the BEST chorus pedal???

I really like my old Boss CE-2. The Rocktron Tsunami is another good one although the two sound very different.

Re: What is the BEST chorus pedal???

I'm going to try my hand at building a clone of the CE-1 next semester after I build my Tube Screamer clone. CE-1 is definately the best chorus pedal you can buy, hands down.

Boss OWNS chorusing.

The CE-1 is a classic.

The CE-2 sort of set the standard in the 80's, but is getting pricey.

Thje CE-3 sounds just as good in my opinion, but costs less then 1/2 what the -2 does.

The Dimension C is a different beast - absolutely great sound. Rare and expensive. I actually prefer the lo-fi wobble of the CE-2 and -3, so I cashed out of my Dimension C a year ago.

Start with a -3 'cuz it's cheap, then move on from there if necessary.

The CE-3 is my favorite overall but it's not stereo. For mono, the CE-3 is unbeatable, IMO. For stereo, I like the Danolectro Cool Cat...it's a little noisy when the notes are fading out but you can't hear that onstage...only at home. Gets a great stereo effect that sounds HUGE through two amps in stereo...and it's fairly inexpensive. Those TWO are my pics...

I had a Fulltone...didn't sound as deep or as musical as either. I sold it within days of purchasing it.

Re: What is the BEST chorus pedal???

Aside from the CE-3, the CH-1 is really good. That's the one I have and I like it a lot. Great stereo sound too.

Re: What is the BEST chorus pedal???

I've gone through about 4 or 5 of them and I've settled on the old 2-knob BOSS CE-2. Keeley makes mods for it too, I should try those out!

Re: What is the BEST chorus pedal???

I never really tried some other chorus pedal, but my Boss CH-1 really sweet sounds. I should use it more often actually now that I'm using my amp again.

Re: What is the BEST chorus pedal???

For my taste the Boss CE-2 is the definitive chorus sound that most people think about when they think chorus.

I had both a japanese CE-2 and CE-3 (both bought in the 80's) and the difference is huge. The CE-3 has a certain metallic harshness to it that the CE-2 doesn't. The CE-2 is lush and warm, vey analog sounding. Although the CE-3 is analog as well, it could fool ya into thinking it was digital.

I sold the CE-3.

If you are talking modern, then the Fulltone Choral Flange is hard to beat.

Re: What is the BEST chorus pedal???

Rocktron Tsunami!

(yes, I know that's a very wrong name for a pedal, especially as I am posting this EXACTLY one year after the tsunami that struck a major part of Asia :blackeye: - but I just really really like that pedal!)

Re: What is the BEST chorus pedal???

Ibanez SC-10!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: What is the BEST chorus pedal???

I've had a couple of CE-2 that were amazing and I stupidly sold for cheap when I went to a POD...

I now keep a CH-1 around for when I need a different chorus than the ones in my AX2...

They are both good... :)

Re: What is the BEST chorus pedal???

the one in my old digitech tsr-24 effects rack
smooth, but then again it aint a pedal.

tried all ibanez chorus pedals sounded too cheesy for me like a detune sound, the champs are boss ce-2,yamaha pedal, arion and oliver ce-30(brazilian boss).

Re: What is the BEST chorus pedal???

:yell: Well, after reading your responses and after veiwing my newly purchased Eric Johnson live from austin TX, I want a tc electronics Chous/Flange. I priced one new and its like 299.00. I may just get a new boss ce-5 for now, but i want the TC Electronics pedal. I also looked on Johnsons web site and that is most definatly what he uses.:yell: I need to try to look into a used one!!!!!

Re: What is the BEST chorus pedal???

Absolutely amazing chorus, perhaps the best I've ever heard but it doesn't work with active pickups. The manual said the boosted gain of actives would damage some of the internals and sure enough, I burned mine this way :(

This thread needed some reviving after 10 years LOL

Re: What is the BEST chorus pedal???

Uh, this thread is so old.
Anyway, Boss CE2. Just because I've got one.

Re: What is the BEST chorus pedal???

I have a MIJ Boss CE-2 from early 1980 (it's older than me lol) that sounds amazing. I used to have a MIT one as well, but it didn't sound quite as good. I've also had a Voodoo Labs (too noisy) and an Electro Harmonix Small Clone that sounded great. If I'd had any idea how hit & miss Small Clones are, I never would've sold it. :(

Re: What is the BEST chorus pedal???

Vintage MXR Stereo Chorus, the big box!!! I had to sell mine and I've regretted it ever since! I bought a MXR Micro Chours & it sucks in comparison! There's a few spots on that one big ole dial that sound like the original version but God do I miss the level control, I get a 4-6 db boost every time I turn it on! The MXR Uni-Vibe is better than the Micro Chours but the big boxes are absolutely amazing!

As far as newer pedals go, I'd have to say the T.C. Corona , Maxon PAC-9, or the Red Witch Medusa if you don't mind spending the money? They might cost over $350 & I normally would never say this about a pedal that costs more than some people's amplifiers but it's money well spent!!! The Medusa is by far (THE BEST) Chours I've ever had the pleasure of using/playing!!! Then again, pretty much everything Red Witch poops out is pretty darn amazing???

Now you got me gassing for some Red Witch, I think if my gut-fiddle sells I'm going to be the proud new owner of a ridiculously expensive Red Witch Medusa! I have a friend who has one & he let me borrow it for a night a while back. I spent hours with my Telecaster in my hands plugged into a AC-30 with the Medusa on the floor, it literally felt like miniuts because I was having such a good time! I've asked to borrow it a few times since but he won't let it go, not even for a night!!!😤
