What is the best configuration and pups for a stratoscaster you want to sell?

I'm not particular as to how it sounds because I am going to sell the strat.
I want to know what form factor and set of SD(or any other brand) pickups would attract the most buyers and command the best/fastest sale.
all comments will be appreciated (even those that explain to me that I am a capitalist pig).

Probably anything that sounds like a typical Strat, since that is wnat many people buy them for. SSL-1s or 2s, or just stock Strat pickups. I don't think pickup swaps on a guitar being sold really ups the price.

GFS/Stock/Cheap

Keep your "good" p/ups,you most likely won't get the return on them, unless you'd mebbe give the buyer the option...

Stock form, stock pickups.

Stock, mods do not equal re-sale, sell the pickups separately, put the cheap stock pieces back in.

Stock as others have said. Some buyers are turned off by certain or even just aftermarket pickups. No idea why, just my experience.

Yep, whatever was stock. You'll lose out on any upgrades when it comes to price and, as HiFiRebel said, a lot of buyers won't touch guitars that seem "modded".

Agree with the sentiments above--not only is it not a sure thing, selling with upgraded, but non-standard pups, but I've seen upgrades including pups bring the price down.

Personally, if I were the buyer, you'd really have to hit something unusual for me to light up and say--wow, a guitar I won't have to mod myself! I think those of us who customize, like the act of customizing as well as playing that instrument. The others want their strats to be strats. If you have the factory pups, I'd leave or pop them back in. Don't give away good gear or waste money when it doesn't help.

That's just my 2 cents. Good luck!

An anecdote: I wanted to do a project that'd be kinda cheap and fun, but wasn't really making for myself. I found a $50 partscaster (mostly squier parts) at a local store and did a conversion on it that was meant to be evocative of Van Halen's "Bumble Bee".

So I put a Frankenstein pup in it, did some painting, did some work on frets and hardware, got a single HB pickguard, and redid the electronics. When I was done, I was really satisfied that I'd hit the mark for what I wanted from my project and thought that somewhere the must be some youngster or fan who'd like this inexpensive tribute.

I did sell it in the end, but after shipping and ebay costs, I barely got back the initial $50 and the $100 for the pup. The other parts and of course my time amounted to nothing, so strictly speaking, I lost money on the deal. Now I learned a bit and it was fun to do, so in cost/entertainment&education terms, it was a bargain, but I could have put a GFS Guitar Fetish pickup in there or even a Fender Bullet HB, and I bet I'd have sold it for just as much--and maybe made a buck or two.

The moral of the story is that i made the guitar that I wanted and thought lots of people would appreciate, when in the end, I spent a lot of time waiting and negotiating just to get it out of my rack.

If it is a very cheap Squier strat, I would be more likely to buy it if it had Seymour Duncans in it, just to have the pickups. As a general rule, though, I don't like to see that someone has modded anything on a guitar I plan to buy, because there are so many people out there who have no clue what they are doing.

I don't even want big name stores "Setting up" my guitars because it just increases the chances of damage. On of the most common pet peeves I have with store "set-ups" are hacks who adjust the tailpiece studs while under string-tension with screwdrivers that do not fit the slots and marr the plating.

I'm ranting. I'll stop and let you carry on...

Youll get more if you part it out. Guitars are very expensive to ship whole!

Ah the irony of all of us here. Want a stock piece of gear so we can tear into it immediately to modify. :D
