What is the best Les Paul pickup set?

Re: What is the best Les Paul pickup set?

The best solution is to have at least four different humbucker pairings in separate Les Pauls. :D

Would somebody be kind enough to add a link to JOLLY's pickup comparison thread of last year. Thank you.

I'd love to see that, he has a nice collection of LPs with a great variety of pickups.

Re: What is the best Les Paul pickup set?

59/jazz in the neck. Custom in the bridge. I like an A8 mag in my custom bridge pickup

Re: What is the best Les Paul pickup set?

I do like the SD-Seths, Just installed a combo of Jazz and Custom5 on an SG, but I do have a Set of Crossroads from WCR, and are Stellar, Clear and Woodsy Bridge !!!
also a Set of Bartollini in a LP Studio, neck is a Little to worley, but the Bridge is to die for....

Re: What is the best Les Paul pickup set?

In your humble opinion of course :)

I am replacing BB Pros in my LP Standard (chambered). I like 59/PG, 59/JB, Jazz/CC

I like smooth and clear in the neck and fat a ballsy in the bridge with a nice jangly middle position. I am thinking of doing a Seth neck and Custom Custom bridge in this one but not sure.

Thanks -Frank

For me, it's the set you are replacing BB Pros. But mine are in a 2002 - not chambered. And I prefer a bright flutey neck and a bridge with great crunch.

So maybe you should have titled this thread "What is the best Les Paul pickup set FOR ME".

Re: What is the best Les Paul pickup set?

Blues/Rock/HardRock/P&W

You know what's crazy, I have a Dean Evo Select with a 59n/JB and I love it. I also have a spare black 59n/PGb sitting here. I should probably just stick those in there and see what it sounds like. From what you guys are saying though I am thinking maybe a PGn with maybe a 59 bridge or maybe something a tad hotter - 59/C Hybrid maybe? Never tried the Brobucker. Kind of a strange name no? What is is made of?

Re: What is the best Les Paul pickup set?

PGn/59b is a great combo!

Pg really cuts in the neck, with a little less bass. The perfect neck bucker in my opinion 9and the Rev Billy G. agrees with me here....)

The 59 adds some nice bass - big and tigh in the bridge, with a little sharper highs for the leads.

Great combo.

At the moment:

#1 T-Top/Distortion
#2 PAF/SuperDistortion (I know it's DiMarzio, but you gotta have one of those...)
#3 Pearly Gates set (formerly PG/Custom)*
#4 stock/JB8 (soon to be 59/JB8)*
#5 Vintage/Custom P-90's (gotta have P-90 LP too! That's a bridge vintage in the neck and a Custom neck in the bridge. Because I roll like that)
#6 currently under construction, but I'm feeling more Dimarzio's in there. Maybe I'll go PG Custom for a while.

Indeed - it is a good thing! People shouldn't be forced into just one set of Duncan's. Who can make a decision like that?
