If you want Metallica´s exact tone, you´ll have to spring for EMGs and Mesa amplifiers, depending which of Hammet´s leads you want to cop you MAY need a Wah pedal. For Cleans there´s often also a Roland Jazz Chorus as an amp.....

No passive can capture the exact vibe of an EMG, dito for other amps and Mesas, though depending on what "level" your playing and ears are on a POD or similar Modeler will be close enough

Kirk Hammet used to use Distortions before he switched to EMG's. If you're going for the old-school Metallica sound (provided you have the correct amplification) It should treat you right. If you're really concerned about having pristine cleans, pop a Jazz in the neck spot.

First of all you need the playing style of Jaymz and Kirk... they would also Sound like Metallica playing a cheap epiphone over a 30 Watt Marshall!

bill lawrence L500XL bridge and L500 regular or clean for the neck. my friend is a HUGE metallica fan and he LOVED them when he played them for the first time. they are very versatile. i think they sound awesome, too.
