What is the best reverb pedal?

Re: What is the best reverb pedal?

unfortunately "best reverb pedal" is kind of an oxymoron. if it is not tube/spring based it will sound like crap, esp if it comes before distortion. my friend has a holy grail pedal and it only has one setting that isn't awful.

Re: What is the best reverb pedal?

My friend has a Holy Grail Reverb pedal and I was impressed with it.
I've played thru it a couple of times with my amp and I'd recommend it.

Re: What is the best reverb pedal?

Any little reverb pedal that doesn't use springs and tubes is going to sound a little like a robot voice, but I like the Boss Digital Reverb Pedal best. Comes in a gray enclosure. It'll also allow you to drive two amps in stereo...very cool! I keep the reverb level to an absolute minimum...no more than "2" when using a digital reverb like that.

There is a "best" reverb pedal out there. Get the Little Lanilei Spring Reverb. Look up the reviews; hands down it blows away the rest of the competition.

Re: What is the best reverb pedal?

The digitech is one of the finer ones I've tried, the different settings sound great. Not my favorite, but it's one of the better ones out there definitely :)

Re: What is the best reverb pedal?

Yeah, That's a tough call no one really makes a good (Natrual) sounding
reverb in a box. On amps I've had that had weak verb, I used to run
a delay unit to help fatten up the weak verb. I have a Alesis Nano verb.
To my ears it's the best sounding Digital verb, But It doesn't sound
good straight into the amp ( you need a effects loop) It's lush sounding
but nothing sounds as good as a tube driv'in spring.

Re: What is the best reverb pedal?

If I were using a reverb pedal straight into the front, I'd get either the Little Lanilei
or the EH HOLIER Grail. I use the Holy Grail in the FX loop of my amp, and have it set on top of the head. Like Lew said, digital reverb only sounds good if you have it turned real low, just to add some air. Any higher and you get the pingy robot verb.

Re: What is the best reverb pedal?

So you guys are saying digital reverb can't really sound good. (For example if you wanna drown in reverb like the early EVH albums...)

So how do you get tube spring reverb? Do they come in units or do I have to replace the reverb tank in my amp?

BTW the best reverb I EVER heard in my life was this guy playing in a downtown toronto bar. He played a '52 reissue fender telecaster (broadcastery fat sound...) through a big fender head with a 4x12 fender cabinet (that amp was 1970something and it had huge blue glowing tubes inside ... lol ) I played through that amp with my antiquities strat and the reverb is just unbelievable. It's like playing in a concert hall (you can't tell the difference)

Re: What is the best reverb pedal?

Holier Grail is probably the best but like a lot of EH products they break down a lot.

Re: What is the best reverb pedal?

What's really great about the Little Lanilei is that it has the 3 spring accutronics reverb tank built into the pedal. So it's real authentic reverb unlike any of the digital stuff (although the Digiverb clips I've heard sound really impressive, my friend just bought one himself, gotta check it out).

Frantic... I was going to hold off on posting in this thread because the subject was "reverb pedal" - but, IMHO the best reverb I have ever owned is a....

B.K. Butler Tube Works stereo spring reverb. It has 2 12ax7's that drive 12 springs (6 per side). Each channel has controls for input gain, bass, mid, high, and reverb mix.

Here's a picture of it. It's in the middle with yellow lettering. If you want EVH drenched in reverb or any sound less drenched, then this (I think) is the ultimate unit.

Ahhhh! A good friend of mine has the Lanilei Leslie Unit. It is pretty small, but is a phenomenal piece of gear. I didn't know they made a Reverb unit. I'll have to check that out.

Re: What is the best reverb pedal?

I play the Little Lanilei. It's great! a little touchy with the feedback if the gain is too high w/ u'r amp settings. Extremely believable reverb. There's another spring reverb pedal that just came out also. I forget the name, but it's getting great reviews. I'll try to find what it's called.

Re: What is the best reverb pedal?

Arion Digital Reverb pedal.

NOT!!!!

Can you build/buy an amp reverb tank and simply put it in the effects loop??? If you could, might be the easiest/simplest way.
