What is the Best Strat Copy?

The thread about what we would do if our main axes were stolen or destroyed made me think. I answered that i would get a Rondo SX strat copy, as they seem to be pretty good and they're so cheap and all i could afford. I've played their basses and love the finish they use for the necks but i really dont know about how they sound.

what about you guys? what strat copies have you come across and thought of them as the being the next best thing?

Re: What is the Best Strat Copy?

I'd just buy another Fender strat honestly

Rondo etc are all fine and good, but given the rather low prices and high quality you can find in MIM Fender and also the Highway One models, theres really no reason not to have a real Fender.

Gibson LP's are a different story as for those, Edwards, Burny, Rondo etc all offer great quality for much, much less than the prices of a GIbby.

Re: What is the Best Strat Copy?

I'm not in the market, i was just wondering in a worst case scenario kind of thing. I would still probably get a rondo over a MIM, just because of the cost.
any other notable strat copies?

Re: What is the Best Strat Copy?

as far as cheaper than a MIM... the Squier deluxe series strats are pretty impressive.

Re: What is the Best Strat Copy?

I would go to the higher end Squier's or a strat-copy Yamaha, they are very nice! Even the Pacifica 112 (which is their cheapest model) is very nice playing-wise. It would need pups, but so would all the others in this price-range. You can pick up Pacifica's dirt cheap used, for some reason (unknown to me) they don't have a lot of resale value. Probably get a used Pacifica 112 for $100 at pawnshop, or Music-go-round.

I'm shocked that noone has mentioned the Hamer USA Daytona. I personally think it's better than most strats.

Re: What is the Best Strat Copy?

those SX's are good, i'd grab one if i was gonna go on tour, but my favorite Fender Strat copy is the Fender Standard Strat :smokin:

:lmao: I completely agree man, that is if you're saying that MIM's aint like they used to be. It's so sketchy when you try an assortment of mim standard strats from different years. I can hardly play some of the newer ones, but the ones from the early 90's usually i find are really done right.

Re: What is the Best Strat Copy?

Is this about expensive vintage clones or cheap good stuff?

1983/1984 Squier Strats, the 57 and 62 models.

If you don't want exact Strat looks, Ibanez Blazer. Needs new pickups, if course, but then so do all cheap guitars.

I think the difference is mostly quality controle. The MIM before were all pretty solid, but now you really have to look for a good one. The good ones are just as good as the older good ones, but you just have to look harder for em. My MIM is pretty good, but I had to search like a madman for it.
