What is the best value amp in your opinion?

What is the best value amplifier you can get for under about $400 that give overall the most good amp tone for your dollar? I realize this is highly opinion based, but what is your favorite value amp? Another way of saying I guess could be what is the Squire Classic Vibe or Epiphone Les Paul equivalent in the amp world?

My Blackstar ID 60 head sounds awesome, I'd recommend it to anyone.

I'd have to say a used Peavey Classic of some sort. That's not to say they're the amps I'd choose above all others, but that they are terrific bangs for the buck. Also, look at anything from the Ampeg Diamond Blue line of the '90's. The Super Jet (50W 1x12 combo) is a tremendous bang for the buck (though the Jet II 15W 1x12 combo has my favorite tone in the lineup). The Reverberocket is a solid choice if you want a more "modern style" amp (it has channel switching). The Reverberocket came in three versions: 50W 1x12 combo, 50W 2x12 combo, and 50W head (with straight and angled 4x12 cab models). All three have the same electronics.

I love my Mesa amps, but in this scenario, I would go used Peavey. A VTM-60 is a great head to use with a bunch of pedals. The Classic 50 is well,...a classic. The Triumph was a little three channel Mesa Mark III wannabe, and that amp became the Ultra. If you need a clean pedal platform, consider the 212 Heritage VTX combo, a hybrid. And if you are totally broke, you should track down a used Bandit. Best value ever.

You MIGHT be able to find an old Music Man head or combo. One of my all-time favs.

All of these amps are rugged, durable and of professional quality. They will certainly get the job done.

Good luck!

It's not necessarily squier or epi equivalent, but on the USED market you can land a good bit of amps in the $400 range. I got my BLACKSTAR CLUB HT40 combo for under $400. I also got Carvin Legacys for around that as well.

Highly recommend BLACKSTAR HT40. Loud enough to gig or full band volumes, quality enough not to sell/trade it in a year later, tone enough to rock, versatile enough to cover many styles, etc.

I seriously love my amp. You don't have to drop $1K-$2K on an amp, pickup a BLACKSTAR, save some money for other gear and rock out. If I ever get another amp, it would just be another Blackstar with more options like the Soloist.

New or used?

I have really been impressed with my Fender Blues Jr–in that price range plus it came with JJ Reds and a Cannabes Rex upgrade. New it is out of that price range, used it falls under it.

Roland Cubes and Vox Valvetronixes seem to me to be some of the best bang for your buck amps–can cover a ton of ground! Used you can pick these up dirt cheap!

Various Peavey amps, Jet city, Orange Micro Terror, maybe a bugera, and fender super champ series or blues junior.

Those all are cheaper end of amps that are good bang for your buck.

I was just about to recommend Blackstar HT series. I totally agree with your assessment.

Otherwise, Orange Micro Terror or Micro Dark with a cab is another route.

Re: What is the best value amp in your opinion?

Crate Vintage Club and the Fender Superchamp XD or X2 are the best sounding amps under $400.

Re: What is the best value amp in your opinion?

You can get a used Traynor YCV40 with extension cab for 400$. That's an awful lot of amp for very little money.

Re: What is the best value amp in your opinion?

Peavey Valveking. Used to rip that all the time in the store and it was the cheapest tube amp there in that size.

Re: What is the best value amp in your opinion?

If I was in a situation where I didn't have a gigging amp for some reason and needed one cheap and quickly, I'd be searching for a Roland Cube 60 or 80.

Re: What is the best value amp in your opinion?

So many variables, used or new, musical style, etc...

New, I've seen 50 Watt Jet City combos in that price range and they would absolutely work for anything that I play.

Re: What is the best value amp in your opinion?

Just remember....Craigslist can be your friend. I've probably scored more deals from there than anyone on here.

Re: What is the best value amp in your opinion?

Tweaker 15 - you can usually pick them up used for around $300 or less.

Around the price, it's all oranges and blackstars. Anyway, I've been touring with an EHX 44Magnum for quite a while. $100, light, loud, sounds nice, functional. I don't know prices around your place but considering price/value ratio, probably the Micro Terror beats it by now.

Re: What is the best value amp in your opinion?

I bought a used Peavey XXX for a little over $300 a couple of years ago. I don't think they'd have gone up in price since then. Great amp for the money with two ridiculously high gain channels and an very very pristine clean channel.
