What is the Cheapest You've Ever Seen a LP Historic go for?

Given my recent luck, I am embarking on a quest to find a LP historic for under $1500. Is this rather common or should I shoot for an even cheaper one, say around $1200 or even a grand?

Re: What is the Cheapest You've Ever Seen a LP Historic go for?

I picked up a new R6 for 1500 at a GC a few hours after an employee ran a hand truck into it and removed a small piece of the gold on the top. It looks and plays just fine...

Under $1500? How many pieces do you want it in? haha.

I haven't seen any go for less than 2k but with your luck you'll get it for $1,000.

If I said I wanted a 90's PRS for $200, would you say the same thing?

That said, I'd take two pieces - guitar and case.

If you really look, you can catch an R8 plain top under $2000, but under $1500 is going to be tough.

The bang for the buck Les Paul is a used Les Paul Traditional. You get vintage features at production prices.

Re: What is the Cheapest You've Ever Seen a LP Historic go for?

10 years ago if you looked hard $1500 or so was a solid deal but with the last 2 price hikes guitars that sold for $2500 new 10 years ago sell for 3k used today.

I'd say you can grab an 04 or later R7 or R8 for 2k or so but I don't see you doing much better than $1750 and at that price I expect a pretty poor shape example.

Re: What is the Cheapest You've Ever Seen a LP Historic go for?

I bought a 2007 R9 earlier this year for $2600, and I felt like I stole it. Compare that to the 2013 gold top traditional I like almost as much that cost me $1300.

I forgot how much prices vary depending on what year you're looking at. I'm more interested in a LP Custom Black Beauty. P90's are preferred but I'd take humbuckers too. Does that change things?

Re: What is the Cheapest You've Ever Seen a LP Historic go for?

While we're on Gibson, I might as well ask - what's a good price for a 70's/80's Goldtop Deluxe? I've wanted one of those forever, especially since I can drop P90's in them and if I ever want to sell it just convert it back to stock. Obviously I'd try and play a bunch to find a good one unless one just happened to speak to me, but I'm still curious what I should be paying if I want to get a killer deal. There's a 80's GT on my local CL right now for $1500 (not that I'm considering getting it) and a red one for under $1600. It seems like if I could fine one for a G, $1200 max I'd be in the money.

It does. You're not even getting close to a P90 Black Beauty for 2k

$1500 is a great price based on current value, I don't see you doing much better than that unless it needs a lot of help.

Also just know going in that most if those guitars are just pretty lame guitars..multi piece/pancake bodies, 3 piece maple necks, they often weight well over 10lbs, crap hardware...

Just play before you buy.

You are better off saving up for the right guitar. A used black LPC is going to run you $2000-$2500, but it will hold that value.

Re: What is the Cheapest You've Ever Seen a LP Historic go for?

I'm honestly not a Gibson guy in the slightest, but I figure I should get at least one eventually. I've always had a thing for goldtop Deluxes and P90 equipped ebony LPC's. I've got enough stuff left coming up this year, I think I should put this project on the backburner. Thanks for the advice, guys.
